How to check IRS transcript cycle code and update schedule for 2024?

I filed my taxes last week and I'm trying to figure out my cycle code and when my transcripts will update. I can see my transcripts online but I'm confused about what all these numbers mean. Can someone explain how to read the cycle code and tell me when to expect updates?

Your cycle code is an 8-digit number on your account transcript that ends in 01-05. The last two digits tell you your weekly update day. If it ends in 05, you're a weekly updater (Thursday night/Friday morning). If it ends in 01-04, you're daily. Most transcripts update between 12am-6am EST. The first 4 digits are the year, middle 2 are the week number.

thanks! mine ends in 05 so I guess that means I update on fridays?

Exactly! Check early Friday mornings, usually around 3-6am EST is when you'll see any changes 👍

Instead of trying to decode everything yourself, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that reads your transcript and tells you exactly when you'll update and what's happening with your refund. It's only $1 and way better than playing detective with all these codes lol https://taxr.ai

does it actually work? seems too good to be true

100% works! It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed (had a missing form) and when I'd get it. Saved me hours of googling 💯

WMR is trash tbh, transcripts are the only way to know whats really going on

word of advice dont waste time checking multiple times a day. pick ur update day based on ur cycle code and just check then. save urself the stress

The whole system is rigged. been waiting 6 months for my 2022 refund smh

If your looking at account transcript, the cycle code is usually next to the 150 transaction code. But seriously just use taxr.ai, it explains everything way better than we can here

Pro tip: once you know your cycle code, you can also check the IRS processing calendar to see which weeks they're processing returns. They usually skip holiday weeks and sometimes have maintenance periods. Also, if you e-filed, your transcripts typically show up faster than paper filers. The cycle code system has been the same for years so once you understand it, you're set for future filings too!
