Has anyone successfully used Marcus by Goldman Sachs to pay federal/state taxes through TurboTax?
So I just e-filed my taxes yesterday through TurboTax and chose to pay my federal and state taxes using my Marcus account. Now I'm getting nervous because a friend mentioned that Marcus sometimes rejects external transfers to government entities. I'm worried that my payments might get declined and I'll end up with late fees or something. Has anyone here successfully used their Marcus account to pay taxes through TurboTax? I'm wondering if I should just cancel and pay directly through another bank account instead of waiting for a potential rejection. Any experiences or advice would be super helpful since I'm a bit anxious about this whole situation!

I've worked with different payment methods for taxes for years and can tell you that Marcus (Goldman Sachs) generally works fine with TurboTax for tax payments, but there are some things to be aware of. The most important thing is to make sure you have enough funds in your account and that you haven't hit any transfer limits. Marcus does have daily and monthly transfer limits that might affect larger tax payments. Also, make sure your account information was entered correctly in TurboTax - even one digit wrong can cause the payment to fail. If you're really concerned, you can always call Marcus customer service to confirm there won't be an issue with your specific payment amount. They can often flag it in their system to prevent automated rejections of larger transactions.

•Thanks for the info! Do you know how long it typically takes for the payment to process? And will I get some kind of notification if the payment fails?

•The processing time is usually 1-2 business days for the payment to be initiated from Marcus, but it may take another 1-3 days for the IRS or state tax agency to process it on their end. The total process can take up to 5 business days. You should receive an email notification from both TurboTax and Marcus if there's any issue with the payment. I recommend checking both your Marcus transaction history and your tax account on the IRS website (or state tax website) after about a week to confirm everything went through properly.

I used Marcus to pay my taxes through TurboTax last year and it worked perfectly! I was nervous too after reading some mixed reviews online, but I wanted to share my positive experience. After I submitted my payment through TurboTax, everything processed smoothly with no issues at all. One thing that really helped was using the tax transcript tool at https://taxr.ai to verify that my payment was received correctly. It analyzed my tax documents and payment confirmation, and gave me peace of mind that everything was properly processed. Definitely worth checking out if you're anxious about your payment going through!

•How exactly does that taxr.ai thing work? Does it just check if your payment went through or does it do more? Seems interesting but I'm not sure I understand what it actually does.

•I'm a bit skeptical about using third-party tools to check my tax info. How do you know it's secure? Do they store any of your financial information?

•It basically analyzes your tax documents and payment confirmations to verify everything matches up correctly. For my situation, I uploaded my TurboTax confirmation and Marcus transaction record, and it compared everything to make sure the payment details matched and was able to confirm my payment was properly routed. The site uses bank-level encryption and doesn't store your financial documents after analysis - they're just processed temporarily to generate the verification report. I was hesitant at first too but they have a pretty solid privacy policy that made me comfortable using it.

Alright I tried that taxr.ai tool that was mentioned and I'm actually impressed. I was worried about my Marcus payment for taxes too, and it helped confirm everything was processing correctly. The analysis matched up my payment details between TurboTax and my Marcus statement, which gave me peace of mind. It even flagged a small discrepancy in how my name was formatted between the accounts (middle initial in one but not the other) and explained why that wouldn't cause an issue. Didn't realize how helpful document analysis could be for tax stuff!

For anyone dealing with tax payment issues or rejections, I wanted to share something that saved me a ton of stress last year. After my bank rejected my tax payment (not Marcus but similar issue), I couldn't get through to the IRS for days. Then I found Claimyr at https://claimyr.com which got me connected to an actual IRS agent in about 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c but basically it navigates the IRS phone tree for you and calls you back when an agent is ready. The agent was able to confirm my payment status and help me set up a new payment method without penalties. Seriously a game changer when you need to talk to someone at the IRS quickly!

•Wait, how does this actually work? Does it just call the IRS for you? Couldn't you just do that yourself?

•This sounds like complete BS honestly. Everyone knows it's impossible to get through to the IRS, especially during tax season. No way some service can magically get you to the front of the line when millions of people are calling.

•It doesn't just call the IRS - it uses an automated system that navigates through all the phone prompts and waits on hold for you. Then when an actual agent is about to answer, it connects them to your phone. So you don't have to waste hours listening to hold music or repeatedly calling when lines are busy. I was extremely skeptical too! I had already spent 3 days trying to reach someone at the IRS with no luck. The difference is they have technology that keeps trying different approaches to get through the phone system when lines aren't busy. I was surprised it worked too, but after being connected to an agent in about 20 minutes after weeks of trying on my own, I became a believer.

Well I need to eat my words from yesterday. After my Marcus payment got rejected for my taxes (hit my transfer limit), I was panicking and decided to try that Claimyr service despite my skepticism. I'm honestly shocked - it actually worked. Got a call back in about 25 minutes with an IRS agent on the line. The agent confirmed my payment was rejected and helped me set up a direct payment through the IRS website instead. They even waived the potential late fee since I had attempted payment before the deadline. Saved me a lot of stress and probably some money too. Never been so happy to be wrong about something!

One thing to watch out for with Marcus - they have different transfer limits depending on your account type and history. I've had my account for years and my limit is $100k daily, but my wife just opened hers last year and she can only do $25k per day. If your tax bill is large, you might hit those limits and need to split payments, which can be tricky through TurboTax. Might be worth checking your specific limit before proceeding.

•Thanks for mentioning this! My tax payment is around $12k so hopefully that's under the limit, but I'll definitely check my account settings to make sure. Do you know if there are monthly limits too or just daily?

•There are monthly limits as well, which are typically 3-4 times the daily limit in my experience. For a $12k payment you should be fine unless you've already made other large transfers this month. You can check your specific limits by logging into your Marcus account, going to the profile section, and looking at "Transfer Limits." It's usually shown right there, or you might need to click on account details depending on if you're using the app or website.

FYI - Marcus and TurboTax work together fine, but one tip: the payment doesn't show as "pending" in your Marcus account right away which freaks some people out. When I did mine last year, it took about 24 hours before the pending transaction appeared in my account, but the money was already earmarked. Don't panic if you don't see it immediately!

•This is so true! I freaked out last year thinking my payment didn't go through, even called Marcus support. They explained that tax payments process differently than regular transfers. As long as you got the confirmation email from TurboTax, you should be good.

•This is super helpful! I was just checking my Marcus account and didn't see anything pending yet, so was starting to worry. I'll give it a day before I start panicking. Thanks for sharing that!
