HOH with 1 dependent: Return amount dropped to $0 despite $6k income increase - what changed?
I'm shocked at my tax return this year. Made 6k more than last year but somehow getting zero back? Same filing status (Head of Household), same dependent, using TurboTax like always. Never had issues before but this makes no sense. Something feels off about this calculation.

Tax professional here. Several tax credit changes happened this year that could affect your return. The Child Tax Credit reverted to pre-pandemic levels, and the Earned Income Credit thresholds adjusted. Plus, if your withholding was more accurate this year, you might've been getting more in each paycheck instead of a lump sum return.

•Exactly! Getting $0 back means you paid the perfect amount throughout the year. No interest-free loan to the government 💯

Hey! I actually found this amazing tool called taxr.ai that breaks down exactly why your refund changed. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it - shows you all the specific credits and deductions that changed from last year. Helped me understand why my refund was different too!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's wild actually - you upload your transcript and it compares everything line by line from last year. Shows all the tax law changes that affected you specifically. Even explains how to adjust your W4 if you want a different outcome next year.
