Finally got DDD after 570/971 codes! Anyone else checking transcripts at 3AM?

Checked my transcript this morning 3 AM and got a date for 3-27-24 💃🏽🎊 I had both codes 570/971 until yesterday. Isn't it crazy how we all turn into transcript experts during tax season? I've been monitoring my investment-related returns like I monitor my portfolio - obsessively checking for updates. Anyone else find themselves refreshing the transcript page at ungodly hours? The wait was killing me, but persistence pays off, right?

Congrats on the DDD! I went through something similar last year with those same codes. Checked my transcript around 2 AM (also couldn't sleep) and saw my 570/971 had changed to 846. My experience has taught me to be cautious though - sometimes banks hold the funds for 1-2 days after the deposit date, so don't panic if it doesn't show up right at midnight on your DDD. Mine took an extra day last year even though my credit union usually posts deposits early.

Did you notice any pattern with when the codes updated? I'm seeing mixed reports about whether transcripts update daily or just weekly on specific days.

I had no idea about the bank holding funds! The IRS website doesn't mention that anywhere. I've been refreshing my bank account every hour on my DDD date thinking something was wrong. Wish I'd known this before panicking and spending 3 hours on TaxChatForums.com reading horror stories about missing deposits.

Appreciate the heads up about the bank holds! Wouldn't it be nice if the IRS actually communicated these things clearly instead of making us all become amateur tax detectives? I've got enough financial tracking to do with my investments without having to decode IRS transcript hieroglyphics too.

The Transaction Completion Protocol between the IRS and financial institutions allows for a 24-72 hour settlement window after the DDD is issued. So relieved to understand why my refund took an extra day last year! The 846 code is just the authorization, not the actual transfer completion.

Did you file early? I submitted mine on February 2nd and still have those codes with no DDD. My transcript updated on February 29th with the 570/971 but nothing since then. Starting to get worried because I need to make estimated tax payments by April 15th and was counting on this refund.

I understand the relief of finally seeing that DDD. When I had those hold codes last year, I spent weeks trying to reach the IRS to find out what was happening. I ended up using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an agent after wasting hours on hold. The agent explained my 570 was just a temporary hold while they verified some investment income reporting, and it cleared within days. Definitely worth considering if anyone's stuck with these codes for more than 3 weeks and needs answers.

The 570 code typically indicates that the IRS has placed a temporary hold on your refund, which is often followed by the 971 code meaning they've issued a notice explaining why. In many cases, particularly with investment income reporting, this resolves automatically without any action needed from you, which seems to be what happened in your case. It's possible, though not certain, that they were verifying your capital gains reporting or dividend income against what your brokers reported.

Anyone else notice that the transcript updates seem to happen in batches? Like, do u think checking at 3am actually helped or was it just gonna update today anyway? I've been checking mine at diff times trying to figure out if there's a pattern. Congrats on the DDD btw! Must be a relief after seeing those codes.

According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.4.1.3, the IRS Master File processing occurs in weekly cycles that conclude on Thursdays, with transcript updates typically following on Fridays. However, the visibility of these updates in the online transcript system doesn't always follow a predictable schedule.

OMG this is so frustrating!! I need my refund by NEXT FRIDAY to pay for a business expense and I'm still stuck with 570/971 from three weeks ago! 😭 Does this mean I should be checking tonight since it's Thursday??

I'm a bit confused about the weekly cycles... do you think it's worth checking multiple times per day, or just once on Fridays? I've been trying to be patient and only check once a week to avoid the disappointment.

Think of the IRS processing system like a massive conveyor belt that runs in cycles. Just as a factory might process all orders from Monday through Thursday and then ship everything out on Friday, the IRS batches their processing in similar cycles. It's not that checking at 3 AM specifically helps - it's more about catching that first moment when your transcript reflects the weekly update.

For those still waiting with 570/971 codes, here's what to expect: • Code 570: Indicates a temporary hold on your refund • Code 971: Means a notice has been generated explaining the hold • Resolution timeframes: - Simple verification issues: 2-3 weeks - Investment income verification: 3-5 weeks - Identity verification needed: 6-9 weeks I'm concerned that some of you might be waiting unnecessarily if you received a 5071C letter requiring identity verification, as those won't resolve automatically.

Have you considered setting up text alerts instead of checking manually? Compared to constantly refreshing the transcript page, I've found that banking alerts are much less stressful. Most banks let you set up notifications for deposits over a certain amount, so you'd know immediately when your refund hits without having to check IRS transcripts or WMR.

For anyone still waiting with 570/971 codes, here's how to decode what's happening: 1. First, check if there's a 971 date that's about 7 days after your 570 date - this means a letter is coming 2. Next, look for any TC 290 code which indicates an adjustment 3. Compare the amount on line 150 with any adjustment amounts 4. If the amounts match, it's usually just verification 5. If they don't match, they made a change to your return Most 570/971 combinations resolve within 2-3 weeks without any action needed. The community wisdom is to wait for the letter before calling unless it's been more than 21 days.
