Finally Got DDD After 4 Months - Questions About SBTPG and CashApp Deposit Timing

After 4 lonnnggg months I finally got a deposit date!! May 15th, 2024 to be exact. Now my question is, will it still have to go through SBTPG if Turbo Tax already took their fees? Or will it just deposit on my card directly?.. also, it's for cashapp.. and does it usually deposit early or on the actual deposit date??ā€¦ I came to USA last year so this is my first time filing taxes here. Any information is greatly appreciated thanks so much šŸ™šŸ™

Regarding SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) processing: If TurboTax already deducted their fees from your anticipated refund amount, then yes, your refund will still route through SBTPG as the designated intermediary financial institution. This is part of their Refund Transfer service architecture. SBTPG typically receives the funds from IRS, deducts any remaining fees if applicable, then forwards the remainder to your designated account, in this case CashApp. Processing time from SBTPG receipt to final deposit typically ranges from same-day to 24 hours maximum.

Is there any way to verify if SBTPG has received the funds yet? I'm wondering if there's a specific portal or tracking mechanism that might show the status between IRS disbursement and final deposit to CashApp?

I went through this exact same thing last month. The SBTPG website (https://taxpayer.sbtpgrefunds.com/) shows when they receive your refund and when they send it out. Mine was literally stuck there for 2 days with no updates and I was freaking out, then suddenly it was in my account. The WMR tool on IRS.gov was completely useless during this phase.

I've used CashApp for my tax refund for exactly 3 years now. In my experience, they typically deposit 1-2 days before the official date. Last year my DDD was April 26th but I received it on April 24th at precisely 2:17pm. SBTPG usually processes within 24 hours, and CashApp tends to release funds as soon as they receive them rather than holding until the official date.

Did you check if your refund amount on the transcript matches what you expected? Sometimes there are adjustments that happen during processing that might change the final amount. Also, have you confirmed that your CashApp account is properly set up to receive direct deposits? I'm concerned that after waiting so long, you might run into issues with the actual deposit if everything isn't properly configured.

I need to clarify something important. If you see a deposit date (DDD) on your transcript, that's when the IRS releases the funds, not necessarily when you'll receive them. There's typically a 1-2 day processing window after that date where SBTPG receives and processes the payment before forwarding to CashApp. You should monitor both the SBTPG taxpayer portal AND your CashApp account starting the day before your DDD. Don't panic if it doesn't appear exactly on your DDD - give it until the following business day before taking any action.

Think of your tax refund like a package delivery with multiple handoffs. Right now, your package has left the IRS warehouse (your DDD) but still needs to go through the SBTPG distribution center before final delivery to your CashApp doorstep. If you need to check on its status at any point, calling the IRS directly can be nearly impossible - it's like trying to reach Santa on Christmas Eve. I've had success using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent when I needed to verify my refund status. They connected me to an agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent was able to confirm exactly where my refund was in the process, which gave me peace of mind during those final waiting days.

Last year I paid $39.99 for TurboTax fees from my refund and it still went through SBTPG even though they already took their cut. I remember being surprised by this too! Ended up getting my refund 2 days after my DDD. I'm not sure I'd pay for a service just to call the IRS though - seems like an unnecessary expense when you already have a confirmed date.

I believe the Claimyr service might actually be worth considering in certain situations, particularly if there's any unexpected delay after your DDD passes. While it's probably not necessary right now since you have a confirmed date, it could potentially be helpful if, for instance, your deposit doesn't arrive within 3-5 business days after your DDD. Sometimes there can be unforeseen complications that might require speaking directly with an IRS representative, and in those cases, having a reliable way to reach them could save considerable time and stress.

Has anyone actually needed to call the IRS after getting a DDD? I always thought once you have a deposit date, it's basically guaranteed to arrive, no? What kinds of issues could even come up at that point that would require calling?

I've had to call after getting a DDD when: ā€¢ My bank rejected the deposit due to name mismatch (married filing jointly but account in single name) ā€¢ SBTPG held the funds for "verification" for 5+ days ā€¢ My refund amount was reduced but no explanation code appeared on transcript ā€¢ DDD passed but no deposit appeared after 5 business days The IRS system is not infallible, and having a direct line to an agent can be crucial if you're in the small percentage of people who experience post-DDD issues.
