Filed 1/22, WMR Shows Processing - No DDD Yet (No Dependents)

Hey, all I filed 1/22/24 and was accepted 1/23/24. WMR still shows accepted and being processed. Transcript hasn't updated at all. Has anyone else received a DDD yet? I'm trying to make sure everything is on track. I don't have any dependents, so I thought mine would process faster. Is this normal for this tax season? I triple-checked all my forms before submitting since my family depends on this refund for some bills coming up.

This is probably... normal for this point in the filing season. The IRS typically processes simple returns (no dependents, standard deduction) within 21 days, but that's not guaranteed. It might be worth noting that early filers sometimes experience longer waits as the IRS ramps up their processing systems. Have you checked if your state return has processed yet? Sometimes that can provide additional insight.

I appreciate this perspective. It seems like the processing times might be a bit slower than usual this year, possibly due to system updates or staffing issues?

Is there any way to know if you're in some kind of review queue? Last year I was in the same boat and found out weeks later I was under manual review for identity verification. Wish they'd just tell us upfront instead of making us guess what's happening!

Thanks for the info. My state already processed. Federal still waiting.

Did you claim any credits at all? EIC? Education credits? Those can slow things down even without dependents. I'm asking because I filed 1/24 with zero credits or dependents and already got my refund last week.

Good question - credits definitely make a difference in processing times even when you don't have dependents.

Ugh! Why does the IRS treat different credits so differently? I filed with education credits and I'm STILL waiting while my roommate who filed a week after me already got her refund!

I was in the exact same situation last year... filed early January, no dependents, and my return just sat there for weeks with no updates. I finally got so anxious about it that I tried calling the IRS, but couldn't get through after trying for three days straight. Someone on here recommended Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c), and I was honestly skeptical, but it worked! Got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my return was just in a regular processing queue with no issues. My transcript updated two days later. Might be worth a try if you're really worried about your family's bills.

I received my DDD yesterday after filing on 1/20. According to IRS Publication 2043 and Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, returns filed early in the season without PATH Act credits should process within 21 calendar days. However, the IRS has officially announced higher than normal call volumes and processing delays this season. Your lack of transcript updates suggests your return is still in the initial processing queue, not yet assigned to an examiner. I'd give it until the 21-day mark before taking further action.

It's like being stuck in traffic on a highway - you know you'll eventually get there, but it's hard to tell exactly when. Do most people eventually get through without having to call?

To clarify, when you say "initial processing queue," are you referring to the Submission Processing stage where returns are validated for mathematical accuracy, or the Error Resolution System where discrepancies are manually reviewed?

Anyone know if there's a difference between filing in January versus February? I'm in the same boat (filed 1/25) and wondering if I should have just waited until February? Doesn't the IRS sometimes hold early filers longer for some reason?

IME early filers often wait longer than ppl who file mid-Feb. Something about the IRS testing their systems with the first batch. My DDD came thru yesterday after filing 1/24, but my sis who filed 1/15 is still waiting. Transcripts are key - once u see 846 code, you're golden. Check WMR early AM (like 3-4am) when system updates. GL!

That's interesting about the early morning updates. I've noticed that pattern too. The IRS systems seem to refresh overnight, so checking first thing in the morning often yields new information.

Is there a specific day of the week when updates are more likely? I've heard Wednesdays and Fridays but not sure if that's true.

If you're still not seeing updates, consider these options: • Wait until exactly 21 days from acceptance date • Check transcript for cycle code (helps predict update schedule) • Verify identity on IRS.gov if that's the holdup • Check that your bank hasn't rejected a deposit • Consider tax advocate service if it goes beyond 45 days Are you seeing any error codes or messages at all? Sometimes WMR doesn't show everything.

My situation was similar to yours but filed a week earlier (1/15). My transcript updated yesterday with DDD for 2/14. Compared to last year, processing seems about a week slower overall. I'd expect your transcript to update within the next 5-7 days if there aren't any issues with your return.
