Filed 01/22, PATH Act Return - Transcript Still Shows N/A (Code 0605)
I filed on 1/22 and got accepted 1/23 like a letter sliding into a mailbox - smooth and quick. But now I'm stuck in PATH Act purgatory. My transcripts are still showing N/A, which feels like trying to read a book that hasn't been written yet. Anyone else floating in this same boat? When should I expect my transcripts to actually show something useful? Last year I had code 0605, which I'm assuming means I'll face the same timeline this year, but tax seasons are like snowflakes - no two are exactly alike.

PATH Act returns (those with EITC/ACTC) are like planes in a holding pattern right now. I filed January 19th and my transcript also shows N/A. Last year I was in the same situation. The IRS holds these returns until after February 15th by law, but processing actually starts before then. My experience last year: transcript showed N/A until February 22nd, then suddenly everything appeared at once. The 0605 code you mentioned typically indicates you claimed refundable credits that fall under PATH Act provisions. I'd expect your transcript to update sometime between now and the end of February, with refunds typically starting to go out the last week of February.

This is really informative, thanks! Do most people realize how much the PATH Act impacts refund timing? I'm counting every penny this year and wondering if I should adjust my withholding to avoid this delay next year?

I was in the exact same situation last year. Filed on January 20th, 2023 and my transcript didn't update until February 24th. Got my refund on March 1st. The PATH Act delay is frustrating but predictable at least.

Appreciate the detailed explanation. Does the PATH Act delay also impact how quickly we can access our transcripts? I've been trying to plan my finances around my expected refund date.

According to the IRS.gov PATH Act FAQ page, they're required by law to hold these refunds, but they still process the returns during this time. I've been using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript once it appears - it explains all those confusing codes better than the IRS website does. Last year it accurately predicted my deposit date based on the transcript codes. The IRS data tracker shows about 35% of PATH Act returns have similar transcript patterns to yours right now, so you're definitely not alone.

Same boat here. Filed January 20th. Accepted same day. Transcript still N/A. Checking daily. Sometimes hourly. PATH Act is frustrating. Will likely update mid-February. Had 0605 last year too. Refund came February 28th. Trying to be patient. Not working well.

The N/A transcript status is completely normal for PATH Act returns at this point in the filing season. If you're anxious about your return status, I recommend using Claimyr to connect with an IRS agent directly. I used it last week when I had questions about my amended return and got through in about 15 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait. The agent confirmed my return was in normal processing despite the N/A transcript. Sometimes getting that confirmation directly from the IRS provides peace of mind worth the service fee.

Have you checked your account transcript instead of your return transcript? Sometimes that updates first. Here's what to do: 1. Log into your IRS account 2. Go to Tax Records 3. Request "Account Transcript" instead of "Return Transcript" 4. Look for any 2024 entries Sometimes this shows activity even when your return transcript is still N/A. Would you mind checking and letting us know if you see anything there?

I experienced the exact same situation with PATH Act processing delays and N/A transcripts! My ACTC refund was held due to PATH verification protocols, but after the February 15th statutory review date, my transcript updated with TC150 (return filed) and TC768 (EIC credit) codes. Received my direct deposit exactly 8 days after transcript updated. The system is functioning as designed, even though the UX experience could be significantly improved to reduce taxpayer anxiety.

I just checked the IRS operational status page. They're currently processing electronically filed returns received before January 29th. PATH Act returns are being processed but not released. Expected timeline: 21 days from February 15th for most PATH returns. Your 0605 code from last year indicates EITC/ACTC claims. You need to check your transcript daily starting February 16th. The first batch of PATH refunds will hit accounts February 27th according to the DDD calendar.

PATH Act returns are like packages stuck in customs - they've arrived at the destination country but need extra inspection before delivery. My transcript was N/A until February 18th last year, then suddenly appeared with all processing completed. It's like waiting for water to boil - seems like forever until suddenly it's done. With your 0605 code (which indicates refundable credits), expect your transcript to update around the same time frame as last year. The IRS processes in batches like a baker making cookies - yours is likely in the mid-February batch.

Well, color me surprised when I learned about all this PATH Act business last year! 😂 I was checking my transcript hourly like I was refreshing sports scores during playoffs. N/A, N/A, N/A... then BOOM! Full transcript with DDD all at once. The whole PATH delay thing is honestly ridiculous - "Let's make people who need money the most wait extra long while we "verify" their return" - but at least it's predictable. Filed 1/24, transcript appeared 2/20, money in my account 2/27. Like clockwork! Hang in there, tax buddy.
