Head of Household Tax Transcript Shows All Zeros After State Refund - Will Federal Refund Still Come?

I got my state refund in the mail already but my transcript is showing all zeros for every line. I'm really worried about this. When I log into the IRS website (sa.www4.irs.gov), I can see my account transcript, but everything is showing 0.00. Here's exactly what I'm seeing on my transcript at 2:40: ANY MINUS SIGN SHOWN BELOW BALANCE: 0.00 INTEREST: 0.00 PENALTY: 0.00 BALANCE ACCRUALS (not an amount): 0.00 Then under "INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN" section: FILING STATUS: Head of Household INCOME: The transcript clearly shows HOH filing status, but I'm concerned about what all these zeros mean. Does this mean I'm not getting a federal refund at all? I was expecting something back since I filed Head of Household. I double checked all the information and everything seems correct, but I'm getting really concerned about seeing 0.00 on every single line. I've already received my state refund in the mail, so I'm confused why my federal transcript looks like this. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried that my federal return wasn't processed correctly? What could these zeros all mean?

The transcript shows all zeros ($0.00) across every financial field - balance, interest, penalty, and accruals - with a Head of Household filing status. This pattern of zeros is actually normal and doesn't indicate a problem with your refund. These fields show $0.00 because they represent amounts you owe or penalties assessed, not your refund amount. The "INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN" section confirms your Head of Household filing status was properly recorded in the system. The zeros in the balance fields are actually a good sign - they indicate you don't owe any additional taxes, penalties, or interest to the IRS. To check your actual refund status, you'll want to look for a different section of the transcript containing the 846 code (refund issued) or use the "Where's My Refund" tool. The processing date of 2/24 suggests your return has been received and processed, which aligns with you already receiving your state refund. Remember that IRS transcripts can be confusing because they're designed for internal use - these particular fields showing zeros are more about tracking liabilities than refunds.

So the zeros dont automatically mean no refund? That makes me feel better tbh

Correct - those zeros just mean no penalties or additional charges. Your refund amount would show up in a different section of the transcript.

Hey, instead of trying to decode these confusing transcripts yourself, you should try taxr.ai - it's only $1 and it'll tell you exactly what's going on with your refund. I was in the same boat last week trying to figure out all these codes and numbers lol. https://taxr.ai

How exactly does it work? Does it just read the transcript or what?

It uses AI to break down every code and date on your transcript. Tells you if there are delays, why they happened, and when you'll likely get paid. Way better than guessing or waiting on hold with IRS for hours 💯

Did you claim EIC? That might explain the delay

yeah i did actually. does that usually take longer?

EIC claims typically take a bit longer cause they review them more carefully. Path Act and all that jazz

Check your Where's My Refund tool too. Sometimes that updates before the transcript does
