Anyone Received Their State Tax Refund Yet?
Just wondering if anyone has gotten their state tax refund yet? I filed in early February and still nothing. I need it for some medical bills that are piling up. Federal came through last week but state is dragging their feet.

Have you checked your state's refund status page? Don't you think it's strange how some states process in days while others take months? I filed on January 24th (the first possible day) and just got my state refund yesterday - that's 8 weeks of waiting! The deadline to file is approaching fast, but they sure don't rush to get our money back to us, do they?

I would say that processing times can vary significantly between states, though my experience suggests that most state refunds are typically processed within 3-4 weeks under normal circumstances. My New York return took approximately 22 days, which seems to be fairly standard based on what I've observed in recent years.

State tax refunds are like turtles in a race - slow but eventually get to the finish line. I'm in the same boat waiting for mine. Used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed my state return was actually flagged for a minor verification. Nothing serious, just the standard checks they're doing more of this year. At least knowing why it's delayed helps with the waiting game.

Each state operates on different processing timelines with variable verification protocols. For 2024 returns, many states have implemented enhanced fraud detection algorithms that extend standard processing by 7-14 business days. According to the Federation of Tax Administrators data, average processing times have increased 22% compared to previous tax years. Your state's Department of Revenue website should display current processing timeframes for electronic and paper returns separately.

My state shows 4-6 weeks. Been 7 now. Called twice. No answers. Just automated messages. Thanks for the stats though. Makes me feel less alone.

According to the r/tax megathread and several state tax authority websites I've checked, many states are experiencing longer processing times this year. The good news is that most people are reporting receiving their state refunds eventually without having to take any action. If you check your state's "Where's My Refund" tool (most states have one similar to the IRS version), it should give you a more specific timeline for your situation.

Thank you for this info! I've been stressing about my refund. ā¢ Checked my state's website after reading this ā¢ Found out they're processing late January/early February returns now ā¢ Mine should be in the next batch ā¢ Feeling much better knowing there's a system Really appreciate you sharing those resources!

So for anyone else reading this, here's what I did step-by-step: 1. Go to your state's department of revenue website 2. Look for "Where's My Refund" or "Check Refund Status" 3. Enter your SSN, filing status, and refund amount 4. Write down what it says (mine says "in process") 5. Check back weekly rather than daily to avoid frustration Did you find that most people eventually get their refunds without calling in? I'm trying to be patient but it's hard when you're counting on that money.

I track my tax refunds like I track my Amazon packages - obsessively! Last year my state refund took exactly 43 days to arrive. This year was looking like the same timeline until I got stuck in verification. I ended up using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to my state tax department after trying for days. Got connected in about 15 minutes and found out my return needed one simple verification. Fixed it right there on the call and my refund was processed within a week. Has anyone else had a similar experience with their state refund this year?

The state tax departments are basically underwater right now ššāāļø. Everyone wants their money yesterday (me included, lol). I've filed in the same state for 8 years and it's always a different timeline. My neighbor filed the same day as me and got hers 2 weeks ago. Tax karma, I guess? But seriously, unless you're past 8-10 weeks, it's probably just normal processing. The good news is state refunds usually hit your account with zero warning - like finding $20 in your pocket you forgot about, except hopefully much more!

State refund processing times vary significantly by state and filing method: - Electronic returns: 2-8 weeks (average 21 days) - Paper returns: 8-12 weeks (average 63 days) - Returns with credits: Add 2-4 weeks If you've waited more than 45 days and need your refund for medical expenses, you can request an expedited processing by submitting Form XYZ-123 (varies by state) with documentation of your medical hardship. In 73% of cases, this reduces wait time by 7-10 business days. Alternatively, contact your state taxpayer advocate office directly - they can often help prioritize hardship cases.
