Anyone Called IRS About When PATH Act Lifts for 2024 Tax Season? When Will Weekly Cycle Transcripts Update?
I've been carefully tracking my refund status this year, and I'm trying to determine the exact timing for PATH Act restrictions being lifted for 2024 filing season. I'm particularly interested in finding out when those of us on the weekly processing cycle might see our transcript updates. I've compiled information from previous years, but I'm wondering if anyone has actually spoken with an IRS representative recently to confirm the dates for this year? I'd appreciate any verified information, as I prefer to work with confirmed facts rather than speculation. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I called last week about this exact thing. The agent told me PATH officially lifts on February 15th, but don't expect to see updates immediately. I've been through this rodeo for years, and what typically happens is the system starts processing returns with EITC/ACTC claims on the 15th, but transcript updates don't show until the following cycle date. If you're weekly, that means you probably won't see movement until the Friday after the 15th at earliest. They're deliberately vague about it because they don't want millions of people hammering their systems all at once.

Let me clarify a few points about the PATH Act processing: ā¢ The February 15th date is when processing begins, not when refunds are issued ā¢ Weekly cycles typically update overnight Thursday into Friday ā¢ Direct deposits usually start hitting accounts the following week ā¢ Some returns may take longer if selected for additional review Hope this helps provide a clearer timeline for everyone waiting.

So if I filed on January 29th and claimed EITC, is there any chance I'd get my refund before the end of February? Or am I just kidding myself? š My car decided to die at the most inconvenient time possible!

I work with tax preparation, and I can tell you directly that if you're on a weekly cycle and claimed EITC or ACTC, you should expect your refund to hit your account between February 26th and March 1st. This assumes no other issues with your return. I've seen exactly 846 refund dates appear on transcripts starting February 23rd for the past three years.

I remember going through this last year - the waiting was brutal. Did the agent mention anything about whether they're processing returns faster this year? I filed on February 2nd and I'm hoping they've made improvements to their systems.

OMG I've been thru this PATH delay for 5 yrs now & it's always the same headache. Last yr I was so confused by my transcript codes til I found https://taxr.ai - it actually explained all those weird 570/971 codes & predicted my DD date perfectly. Def recommend checking it out if ur transcript finally updates but looks like gibberish. Saved me tons of anxiety when my refund was bigger than usual & got flagged for review.

I appreciate everyone's input on this. Called IRS yesterday. Got confirmation. PATH lift happens February 15th. Weekly cycles update Thursday nights. First refunds expected week of February 26th. No guarantees though. System can be unpredictable. Will update when I see movement on mine.

Thank you for sharing this information! Did the agent happen to mention if there's any difference in processing time between those who filed in January versus early February? I'm wondering if there's a backlog they work through in order.

I really appreciate you taking the time to call and share this with us. It helps to have concrete information instead of just guessing. I've been planning my budget around these dates, and knowing when to expect the refund makes a huge difference for my family's financial planning this month.

I tracked this data for exactly 3 years now. PATH Act processing begins February 15th, 2024 at midnight. First transcript updates appear for weekly cycles on February 23rd at approximately 3:00 AM Eastern. First direct deposits hit accounts on February 27th for 87.3% of filers. Last year I spent exactly 6 hours and 42 minutes on hold trying to reach an IRS agent to confirm my refund status. This year I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got through in 18 minutes. Worth every penny when you need actual answers from a real agent instead of the automated system.

Has anyone received their refund who claimed both EITC and Child Tax Credit? Are those being processed at the same time, or is there a separate queue for different credit combinations? What about if you have a prior year return still processing?

I just checked my transcript this morning (February 12th, 2024) and I already see processing codes even though PATH hasn't lifted yet. My cycle date shows 20240805, which means I'm on the weekly cycle. Called the IRS on January 30th and they confirmed my return was accepted and queued for processing on February 15th. Just checked my bank account 20 minutes ago and my refund hit! $6,843 direct deposited exactly as scheduled on my transcript. So relieved as we're using it for a down payment on March 1st.
