Amended Return stuck after 20 weeks - What's next step? Need help
My amended return has been pending for over 20 weeks now with zero movement. The where's my amended return tool just shows received. Already passed the normal processing time and getting worried since I really need this money. What are my next steps? Anyone dealt with this before?

At this point, you should call the IRS amended return hotline at 866-464-2050. Make sure to call early morning when they first open to avoid long wait times. They can check the actual status and see if there's any holds or if they need additional information from you. Sometimes amended returns get stuck in verification queues that don't show up on the online tool.

Thanks! Did you have any luck getting through? I've been calling but keep getting the 'high call volume' message 😩

Try calling Tuesday-Thursday, first thing at 7am EST. Those are usually the best times to get through

Hey! I started using taxr.ai for my amended return situation and it was super helpful. It costs $1 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and what to do next. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself! Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Does it actually work? Seems too good to be true tbh 🤔

100% works! It showed me exactly why my amended return was delayed (missing form) and what to do about it. Saved me hours of research and stress

Here's what you need to do for amended returns stuck over 20 weeks: 1. Pull your transcript first - this shows if IRS actually has everything they need 2. Check if you have any freeze codes or pending notices 3. Call the dedicated amended return line (866-464-2050) 4. If experiencing hardship, contact Taxpayer Advocate 5. Consider using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript - it's helped a lot of us figure out exactly what's causing delays 6. If you filed by mail, check if it was actually received Don't just rely on Where's My Amended Return tool - it's notoriously unreliable. The transcript is your best friend here.
