$50,345 Tax Refund Stuck for 7 Months - Code 290 Appeared Today with 11/04/2024 Date - What's Next?
I filed my 2023 tax return in April (received by IRS on April 15, 2024) and my $50,345.00 refund has been stuck in review forever. According to my Account Transcript from the IRS, which I just pulled today (10-18-2024), I'm still waiting on this substantial refund. The transcript confirms my ACCOUNT BALANCE is -$50,345.00 with ACCRUED INTEREST: $0.00 and ACCRUED PENALTY: $0.00 AS OF: Nov. 04, 2024. My transcript shows a 150 code for the initial return filing on 04-22-2024 (cycle 20241405) for $15,092.00, followed by code 806 showing my W-2/1099 withholding of -$65,437.00 dated 04-15-2024. Been dealing with a refund freeze (code 810) since February 23rd showing $0.00, and then in June (06-10-2024) got hit with both a 570 (additional account action pending) and 971 (notice issued) codes, both showing $0.00. Finally saw movement today with a 290 code (additional tax assessed) showing up with cycle code 20244205 dated 11-04-2024 for $0.00. Anyone know what this means for my refund? My transcript shows ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME of $159,091.00, TAXABLE INCOME of $145,241.00, and TAX PER RETURN of $15,092.00. I filed as Single with 01 EXEMPTIONS. The RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) shows as Apr. 15, 2024, with a PROCESSING DATE of Apr. 22, 2024. The account balance still shows -$50,345.00 with zero accrued interest or penalties as of November 4th. The transcript also shows my TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX as $0.00, with SE TAXABLE INCOME for both TAXPAYER and SPOUSE listed as $0.00. The transcript includes a Tracking Number: 106764280059 and was requested on 10-18-2024 with the same Response Date. Been in this limbo since those June codes hit and really need some insight on what this 290 code means for my case. Does the November 4th date mean I should expect something by then? Will my refund finally be issued?

Your transcript shows a single tax filer with an AGI of $159,091 and taxable income of $145,241 for tax year 2023. The total tax liability is $15,092, against which you had $65,437 in withholdings, resulting in the claimed refund of $50,345. The timeline of events is significant: - February 23, 2024: Initial refund freeze (810 code) placed before you filed - April 15, 2024: Return received with withholdings posted - April 22, 2024: Return processed (150 code) - June 10, 2024: Account hold (570) and notice issuance (971) - November 4, 2024: Additional tax assessment review completed (290 code with $0.00) The recent 290 code with $0.00 amount is positive news - it indicates the IRS review is complete and they found no additional tax due. Your account balance remains at -$50,345 with no interest or penalties assessed as of November 4th. The zero-dollar 290 code typically signals the end of a review process, suggesting your refund should be released soon barring any other holds.

•Usually 1-2 weeks after a 290 posts, but every case is different.

Hey everyone, instead of playing detective with transcript codes, I highly recommend checking out taxr.ai - it analyzes your entire transcript and tells you exactly whats happening and when to expect your refund. Only costs $1 and saved me hours of research. https://taxr.ai

I've been dealing with similar transcript codes and delays - the 290 with $0.00 is definitely a good sign! It means they completed their review and didn't find any additional tax owed. Based on what I've seen in this community, most people get their refunds within 1-3 weeks after the 290 posts. Your November 4th date is likely when the review officially closed. Keep checking your WMR and bank account - that $50k should be coming soon! 🤞

•This is really helpful info! As someone new to dealing with IRS transcripts, it's reassuring to hear that the 290 code with $0.00 actually means good news. The waiting is so stressful, especially with such a large amount. Thanks for breaking down the timeline - fingers crossed Anna gets her refund soon! 🤞

I'm relatively new to understanding IRS transcripts, but from what I've been learning in this community, it sounds like you're in a much better position now with that 290 code appearing! The fact that it shows $0.00 means they didn't assess any additional tax after their review. I know the 7-month wait has been incredibly frustrating, especially with such a substantial refund amount. Have you tried calling the IRS directly to get an estimated timeline? Sometimes they can provide more specific information about when to expect the actual refund deposit. Wishing you the best - hopefully that money hits your account very soon! 🙏

•Great advice about calling the IRS directly! I'm also new to reading these transcripts and this whole thread has been super educational. It's wild how much you can learn from the community here about what all these codes actually mean. Anna, definitely try calling if you haven't already - sometimes they can give you a better sense of timing than just waiting and checking WMR constantly. The 290 with $0.00 does seem really promising based on what everyone's saying!

Welcome to the IRS waiting game club! 😅 As someone who's been through a similar situation, that 290 code with $0.00 is definitely what you want to see - it means they've finished their review and found no issues with your return. The November 4th date is likely when they officially closed the examination. With a refund that size, they probably just wanted to make sure everything checked out perfectly. Based on other cases I've seen here, most people get their refunds within 2-3 weeks after the 290 posts. Keep checking your bank account and WMR - you should see movement soon! That's a life-changing amount of money, so I totally get why the wait has been so stressful. Hang in there! 🤞

•Thanks for the welcome! 😊 This community has been so helpful for understanding what all these codes mean. I'm also waiting on a refund (much smaller than Anna's though!) and seeing everyone's experiences really helps manage expectations. The fact that multiple people are confirming the 290 with $0.00 is good news makes me feel more optimistic about these IRS processes. It's crazy how much stress these delays cause when you're waiting on money that's rightfully yours. Anna, hoping you see that deposit soon - $50k would definitely be life-changing! 🙏

As a newcomer to this community, I'm amazed at how knowledgeable everyone is about these IRS codes! Reading through all these responses about the 290 code has been incredibly educational. Anna, your situation sounds incredibly stressful but it really does seem like you're finally at the finish line. Seven months is such a long time to wait, especially for that amount of money. I'm curious - have you noticed any changes in your Where's My Refund tool since the 290 code appeared on November 4th? Sometimes WMR updates a few days after the transcript shows movement. Really hoping you get some good news soon! This community seems like such a great resource for navigating these complicated IRS processes. 🤞
