Filed Jan 23: Federal Accepted Immediately But California Return Still Pending After Almost A Month

Filed on January 23rd and federal was accepted immediately but my state return (California) is still stuck on pending. Double checked all my info is correct but getting nowhere. Starting to get worried since it's been weeks now. I just checked the status online again and received this message: "We are unable to provide your refund status online using the information you provided. You can try again to be sure you entered your information correctly. Allow 1 month since you e-filed your return before contacting us. Allow 3 months since you mailed your return before contacting us. If you have a MyFTB account, log in to verify your contact information." I've triple-checked my information and I'm sure I entered everything correctly. It's been almost a month since I e-filed, so I'm right at the threshold where they say to wait before contacting them. The system provided these contact options: Phone: 800-852-5711 916-845-6500 (outside the U.S.) With these instructions: - Wait until prompted - Press 1 for personal income tax - Press 6 for other information - Press 2 for general tax questions and to speak to a representative They also listed California Relay Service: 711 or 800-735-2929 for persons with hearing or speaking limitations Has anyone else experienced this with California state returns? Is there anything else I should do besides calling them? I'm concerned because my federal was accepted right away but the state seems to be in limbo.

Tax expert here - this is actually pretty common early in the filing season. Each state has their own processing timeline and many don't even start processing until early February. What state are you in? That would help narrow down the typical wait time.

Oh yeah totally normal for CA! They typically start processing returns around Feb 12th. You should see movement within 2-3 weeks after that date.

Hey guys just wanted to share something that helped me track both federal and state - I used taxr.ai and it was a game changer. Cost like $5 but totally worth it to actually understand whats happening with both returns. Saved me hours of checking different websites https://taxr.ai

what exactly does it do? seems sketchy to put transcript info online 🤔

Not sketchy at all! Its basically an AI that reads your transcript and explains everything in plain english. Shows processing stages, flags any issues, and gives actual timeline predictions. Way better than trying to decode all those codes ourselves
