To all those having trouble reaching a human at Georgia Unemployment. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/goJ2B2betto
I applied for PUA reconsideration but I'm still waiting to hear back. The fine print about the appeal process restarting is really concerning - has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried about losing my place in line if I'm not approved. Does anyone know how long the reconsideration process typically takes in Georgia?
I'm in the same boat as you - applied for PUA reconsideration about 6 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. That fine print about the appeal process restarting really caught my attention too. From what I've gathered from others in this group, the reconsideration process seems to be taking anywhere from 2-4 months, but Georgia DOL hasn't given any official timeline. I'm trying to stay patient but it's definitely nerve-wracking not knowing where we stand. Has your portal shown any status updates since you applied?
I haven't applied for the PUA reconsideration yet because that fine print really scared me off. The idea of my appeal process starting completely over if I'm not selected seems like too big a risk. Has anyone actually gone through the reconsideration process and been denied? I'm curious if they really do make you start from scratch or if that's just legal language to protect themselves. Maybe we should try calling using that video Tom posted to get more clarification before deciding whether to apply?
I've been struggling with the same issue for months! After reading through everyone's experiences here, I want to share what finally worked for me last week. I combined several of the strategies mentioned - I called at 8:12 AM on a Wednesday (avoiding the exact 8:00 rush), used the option that Amara mentioned (press 1, then 1, then 3), and had all my documents organized beforehand. The took about 90 minutes, but it was so much better than sitting on hold indefinitely. The representative was actually very helpful and resolved my claim issue in one call. For anyone still struggling, definitely try the system and don't call exactly at 8 AM - those few extra minutes really seem to make a difference in getting through. Keep pushing, it's worth it when you finally connect!
This is exactly the kind of detailed success story I needed to read! I've been calling at exactly 8:00 AM like everyone else and getting nowhere - the tip about waiting until 8:12 AM is genius. I'm definitely going to try the option tomorrow using those menu prompts (1, 1, 3). It's so reassuring to hear that someone actually got their issue resolved in one call after getting through. I've been worried that even if I manage to reach someone, I'll just get transferred around or have to call back again. Thanks for taking the time to share what worked - this gives me a real strategy to follow instead of just randomly calling and hoping for the best!
After reading through all these helpful strategies, I wanted to add my own recent experience. I finally got through to last Friday after 6 weeks of trying! What worked for me was calling at 8:07 AM on a Thursday (splitting the difference between the 8:00 and 8:15 suggestions), and I used the system with the 1-1-3 menu sequence that several people mentioned. The took about 75 minutes, which felt like a miracle compared to the 4+ hour holds I'd been experiencing. The rep was actually knowledgeable and fixed my payment delay issue on the spot. My advice: definitely use the option rather than staying on hold, call slightly after 8:00 AM but before 8:15, and have your claim number, SSN, and last employer info ready to go. Don't lose hope - persistence really does pay off with GDOL!
This is incredibly helpful - thank you for sharing your success story! The 8:07 AM timing seems like the perfect sweet spot between avoiding the 8:00 rush but not waiting too long. I'm definitely going to try the system tomorrow using the 1-1-3 sequence that you and others have mentioned. It's so encouraging to hear that the rep was actually able to fix your payment delay in one call! I've been dealing with a similar issue for about a month now and was starting to worry it would never get resolved. Having all the documents ready beforehand is great advice too - I'll make sure to have my claim number, SSN, and employer info organized before I call. Thanks for giving me hope that this will actually work!
Thanks for the heads up! I was wondering why my seemed to be running late this week. It's frustrating that holidays cause delays, but at least now I know what to expect. Does anyone know if they typically catch up quickly after the or if it pushes everything back by a few days?
From my experience, it usually pushes everything back by 2-3 business days after the holiday. So if you normally get paid on Tuesday, you might not see it until Thursday or Friday. It's really inconvenient, especially during weeks when people need the money most. I wish they would process payments ahead of time to avoid these delays.
This is so frustrating! I've been waiting for my and was already worried something was wrong. Why can't they process these payments ahead of time knowing there's going to be a holiday? People depending on unemployment benefits can't afford these delays, especially during expensive weeks. Has anyone had luck getting through to someone about when exactly we can expect the payments?
I completely understand your frustration! I'm in the same boat - was expecting my this week and started panicking when it didn't show up. It really doesn't make sense that they can't process these ahead of time, especially when they know holidays are coming. From what I've read in other groups, some people have had luck calling early in the morning right when they open, but the wait times are still brutal. Have you tried the online chat feature? Sometimes that's faster than calling, though still not great. Hoping we all get our payments soon!

I completely understand your frustration! I've been dealing with the same runaround for months. One thing that helped me was calling right when they open at 8am - I had better luck getting through then. Also, try calling the technical support line instead of the regular claims line sometimes - they can sometimes transfer you or help with basic questions. Don't give up, and document every you make with dates and what they told you. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get help we're entitled to.
