DEO agent gave contradicting PUA backdate & $600 extension info - Help!

Just spent 85 minutes on the phone with a DEO rep and got completely different information than my previous call! I'm self-employed and applied for benefits in June but couldn't work since April. The rep today told me: 1) Self-employed people don't need to submit backdate requests by phone because 'the system automatically updates after determination' but I 'might not get backpay' even though I couldn't work. Said I might wait 6+ weeks. 2) Claimed the PUA $600 federal payments for Florida have been extended to September 5, 2025. This completely contradicts what I was told 2 weeks ago! Previous rep told me to call back for an escalation if my backdate request wasn't processed in 2 weeks. Today's rep had no idea why I was told that. Something feels really off here. Has anyone else gotten conflicting information about backdating for self-employed claims or this supposed PUA extension? I don't think the September extension is even real! So frustrated with these inconsistent answers.

The PUA $600 weekly benefit definitely has NOT been extended to September 2025. That program ended years ago and hasn't been reinstated. The rep gave you completely wrong information there. Regarding backdating for self-employed claims, you DO need to submit a backdate request - the system doesn't automatically do this. In my experience, you need to specifically request it, and there's a form in CONNECT for this purpose under "More Information Needed" sometimes. Call back and hope for a better representative. Ask specifically for a tier 2 agent who handles PUA claims if possible.

Thank you! I KNEW something was wrong about the September date. It sounded completely made up. I'll definitely call back and ask for a tier 2 agent. Do you know if there's any truth to the "you might not get backpay even if you couldn't work" statement? That part really worried me.

omg the DEO is such a MESS!!! i got told 3 different things by 3 different people last month. one said my claim was fine, next said it was missing documents, third said it was under review?!?! HOW CAN THEY ALL SAY DIFFERENT THINGS?? i swear they just make stuff up when they don't know the answer instead of checking with someone who does know!!

They definitely don't all have the same training or access to the same information. I've found that asking them specifically which screen they're looking at in the system can be helpful. Sometimes they're just looking at different parts of your claim and not seeing the full picture.

Try Claimyr to get through to a better DEO agent faster. I spent 3 weeks trying to reach someone about my backdate issue and kept getting disconnected. Used their service and got through in 25 mins to someone who actually knew what they were talking about. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj - totally worth it when you're getting contradictory info like this.

Does this actually work? I've been trying to reach someone about my backdate for ages!

The rep was 100% wrong about the PUA $600 extension. That program ended years ago. Current regular state benefits max out at $375/week in Florida, and there's no additional federal supplement active right now.

Thank you for confirming this! I thought I was going crazy for a minute there. The rep seemed so confident when telling me about the September extension.

As someone who went through the self-employed backdating nightmare last year, I can tell you exactly what you need to do: 1. You absolutely DO need to request backdating - it doesn't happen automatically 2. The backdate request must include proof you couldn't work during those weeks 3. Submit the request through CONNECT under "Modify Claim Date" 4. Then ALSO call and get them to note your account 5. If not processed within 3 weeks, call and request escalation to a supervisor The system is designed to make it difficult to get backdated payments. They hope you'll give up. Don't give up - keep calling until you get someone competent who will help you.

This is spot on. I'd add that keeping detailed notes of every call helps too - get the rep's name, ID number if possible, and write down exactly what they tell you. That way when you get contradictory info, you can reference previous calls.

Update: I called again this morning and got a much more knowledgeable rep. She confirmed what most of you said - there is NO PUA extension to September 2025, that program ended long ago. She also said I definitely need to submit a backdate request for my self-employed claim and that it won't happen automatically. She helped me submit the proper request and said I should see movement within 2-3 weeks. She also noted my account about the previous misinformation. What a relief to finally get straight answers!

It's crazy how inconsistent the information is. I wonder if some of these reps are new or undertrained? The one who told me about the September extension seemed so confident about it, even though it was completely false information.

One more tip about backdating for self-employed claims: Be prepared to provide documentation showing you were unable to work during the period you're requesting backdating for. This might include cancelled contracts, emails showing lost business, or financial records showing a significant drop in income. Having this ready will speed up the determination process significantly. Keep in mind the maximum backdate period is usually limited to a specific timeframe from when you first filed your claim. The rep should be able to tell you the exact limit that applies to your situation.

Thank you! I have emails from clients cancelling projects in April 2025 and bank statements showing the drop in income. I'll scan these and have them ready to upload. The new rep said my backdate request can go back to when I first lost work which would be April 12th. Fingers crossed this all works out!

my brother works for deo (not at call center) and he says the call center ppl get like 2 weeks training and then theyre on the phones. most of them dont know half the rules, especially for complicated situations like self employed claims and backdating stuff. thats why u get different answers depending who u talk to

This explains SO much about the inconsistent information. It's not necessarily their fault - the system is incredibly complex. I always recommend asking specifically for a tier 2 specialist when calling about anything beyond the most basic questions. They have more training and system access.
