CONNECT shows $0 balance tonight - How do I file for extension & will the extra $600 continue?
Just checked my CONNECT account and looks like my regular unemployment claim will show $0 after tonight's payment processes. I'm kinda freaking out about how to get the extension going with no gaps. Does anyone know the exact steps for filing the extension in Florida? Do I need to wait until the balance actually hits zero or can I start the application process tonight? And the big question - will the extra $600 weekly supplement continue with the extension or does that end when my regular benefits run out? I really need that extra money to cover rent since my restaurant job is still only offering me like 10 hours a week. Thanks for any help!!

The extension doesn't work that way anymore. In 2025, Florida DEO automatically reviews your claim for Extended Benefits (EB) eligibility when your Regular Unemployment (RA) balance reaches zero. You don't have to file anything new. Just keep claiming your weeks as normal through CONNECT. As for the $600 supplement - that was a COVID-era program (Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation) that ended years ago. The current federal supplement is $375/week, and yes, it continues with your extension as long as the program remains funded. But you need to qualify for at least $1 of state benefits to receive the federal supplement.

•Oh thank god it's automatic! My friend said I had to apply separately and I was stressing about missing a payment. So I just keep claiming weeks like normal? And $375 is better than nothing - at least I can still make rent if I'm careful.

•The federal supplement amount varies by state. Florida's is $375, but some states opted for higher amounts by adding state funds. You might be getting an additional state supplement or possibly have deductions affecting your payment amount. I recommend checking your payment breakdown in CONNECT to see exactly what you're receiving.

I just went through this last month. Your claim will automatically roll over to Extended Benefits but there's a weird 1-week gap where CONNECT updates your status. Don't panic if you log in and see a message about your claim being expired or something. Just keep claiming your weeks and it'll fix itself.

•Thanks for the heads-up about the gap week! I would have totally panicked seeing an expired message. Did your payment amount stay the same when it switched to the extension?

The DEO is COMPLETELY USELESS with explaining any of this!!! I called 37 times last week trying to ask about extensions and couldn't get through to a single person. Their phone system just disconnects you after the automated messages. The website has zero useful information. How are we supposed to know what to do when they make everything impossible to understand??

•I had the same problem trying to reach DEO about my extension. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a service that gets you past the busy signals and hold times. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj - the agent was actually really helpful and confirmed my extension was processing correctly.

•So you didn't have to do anything special at all? That's reassuring!

I'm in the exact same situation and was told by a DEO agent that we need to be extra careful with work search requirements on extensions. Regular claims need 5 work searches per week, but extensions require 5 PLUS documentation that you applied to at least 3 of those in person or by directly emailing the hiring manager (not just online applications). They're apparently auditing extension claims much more frequently than regular claims right now.

•This information is incorrect. The work search requirements are exactly the same for Regular Unemployment (RA) and Extended Benefits (EB) in Florida - 5 work searches per week unless you have a Work Search Waiver. The method of application (online, in-person, email) makes no difference. There is no special audit program for extensions. Please be careful about sharing misinformation as it can cause unnecessary stress for claimants.

•OMG seriously?? I've been keeping everything in the CONNECT work search log. Is that not enough??

Just to clarify a few things: 1. The CONNECT work search log is sufficient documentation. You don't need to print anything unless specifically requested during an audit. 2. Extensions are processed automatically - the system will determine if you qualify for Extended Benefits based on your earnings during your base period and how much of your regular claim you exhausted. 3. There may be a brief processing period (1-3 days) when you transition from regular benefits to extended benefits, but if you continue claiming weeks as scheduled, there shouldn't be any payment gaps. 4. Work search requirements remain at 5 verifiable work searches per week unless you have a Work Search Waiver. 5. The current federal supplement ($375/week in Florida) continues with your extension as long as the program remains funded.

•Thank you so much for laying everything out so clearly! This is exactly what I needed to know. The DEO website is so confusing with all the different programs and requirements.

One thing nobody mentioned - make sure your address and direct deposit info are up to date in CONNECT before your claim rolls over! When mine switched to extended benefits, it somehow reverted to an old address I had in the system, and they tried mailing me a paper check instead of direct deposit. Took 3 weeks to fix the mess.

•Oh wow, that's a great tip! I just moved 2 months ago so I better double-check everything is updated correctly. Thanks for the heads up!
