Can I use same EDD claim for remaining intermittent baby bonding leave weeks?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to take the last couple weeks of my baby bonding leave. I've already used some of it intermittently, but I'm not sure if I can use the same claim for the remaining time. Does anyone know if this is possible or if I need to file a new claim? Any advice would be appreciated!

Yes, you can definitely use the same claim for additional baby bonding leave, even if it's intermittent! Just make sure to inform the agent about your extended time request when you talk to them. They should be able to help you out with that. How many weeks have you taken so far?

ā¢Thanks for the quick response! I've taken about 6 weeks so far, spread out over the last few months. I'm hoping to take the remaining 2 weeks soon.

ā¢Just a heads up, make sure you're within the 12-month period from your child's birth or adoption. The clock starts ticking from that date!

ā¢Oh, good point! I'm definitely still within that timeframe. My little one is only 7 months old.

I was in the same boat a few months ago! š¤ It's totally fine to use the same claim. Just call them up and explain your situation. They might ask for some additional documentation, but it's usually pretty straightforward.

Ugh, good luck getting through to anyone on the phone. I've been trying for weeks and keep getting the runaround. š

ā¢I feel you! The phone system is a nightmare. I found a way to get through tho. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

ā¢Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢I used it last month and it worked like a charm. Saved me hours of frustration. Totally worth the 20 bucks imho.

ā¢Wow, thanks for the tip! I might have to give that a try. Anything's better than listening to that hold music for hours on end. š«

Congrats on the baby! šš¶ Make sure you keep detailed records of all your leave dates. It'll make things easier if they need to verify anything.

ā¢That's great advice, thank you! I've been trying to keep track, but I'll double-check my records to make sure everything's up to date.

Here's a comprehensive guide for using your baby bonding leave: ā¢ You can use the same claim for all 8 weeks of leave, even if taken intermittently ā¢ The leave must be used within 12 months of the child's birth or adoption ā¢ You can split the time between parents if both are eligible ā¢ Keep detailed records of all leave dates ā¢ Inform your employer in advance when possible ā¢ If you need to extend your leave beyond the original plan, communicate with both your employer and the EDD ā¢ Remember, your job is protected under FMLA during this time Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

ā¢Wow, this is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out. I'll definitely be referring back to this as I plan out the rest of my leave.

ā¢This is great info! Quick question - does anyone know if the rules are different for foster placements?

ā¢Good question! Foster placements are generally treated the same as adoptions for the purpose of baby bonding leave. The 12-month period would start from the date of placement. However, it's always best to double-check with the EDD or your HR department for any specific requirements.

ā¢Preach! š We're so behind on this. My cousin in Canada got a whole year off!

ā¢For real tho. 8 weeks is barely enough time to figure out which end is up on a newborn lol

Just a heads up, sometimes the system glitches and shows your claim as inactive even when it's not. If that happens, don't panic! Just call and they can usually sort it out pretty quick.
