EDD Money Network phone number - how to actually reach someone?

Okay so I've been going absolutely crazy trying to track down the right EDD Money Network phone number. My situation: I got laid off from my warehouse job about six weeks ago after the company downsized our entire fulfillment department. Filed my initial claim, everything seemed fine, weekly certifications were going through, and then suddenly my Money Network prepaid debit card stopped working at the register last Friday. I'm talking I had groceries on the belt and my card declined in front of everyone. Completely mortifying. I checked my Money Network account online and it shows a balance but says my card status is 'suspended.' I have absolutely no idea why this happened. I wasn't given any warning, no email, no notification through my EDD portal. Has anyone dealt with a suspended Money Network card when your California EDD benefits are still being deposited? What's the correct phone number to call for Money Network specifically versus the main EDD line? I want to make sure I'm calling the right place because I've already wasted hours on hold with the wrong departments before.

The Money Network customer service number for EDD cardholders is 1-800-684-7051. That's the direct line for the prepaid debit card issues, not the general California EDD unemployment line. Hours are 24/7 for automated stuff but live agents are available during business hours. A suspended card usually means either a failed identity verification step or suspicious activity was flagged on the account. You'll want to have your card number, SSN, and date of birth ready when you call.

Thank you! I was calling the regular EDD number and kept getting transferred around. Is there a separate number for the California EDD side of things or does Money Network handle everything card-related?

0 coins

Money Network handles all card-specific issues - activation, suspensions, disputes, PINs, balance transfers. California EDD handles the actual benefit amounts, payment schedules, and claim eligibility. So if your card is suspended it's a Money Network issue. If your payments stopped entirely, that's an EDD issue. Sounds like yours is Money Network.

Just jumping in to confirm this is the right number. Got my card suspended last year and this is exactly who you call. They were actually pretty responsive compared to EDD main line.

0 coins

ugh the money network number is one thing but actually getting through to a PERSON is another story entirely lol. i've called that number like 8 times and it just loops me through the automated system forever. the automated system can tell you your balance and recent transactions but for a suspended card you need a live agent and that's where it becomes a nightmare

0 coins

Yes this is exactly my problem. The automated system tells me my card is suspended but then just tells me to call back during business hours even though I'm calling during business hours??

0 coins

call right when they open. like literally be dialing at 8:00am. afternoon calls are brutal wait times

I had this same exact thing happen to me a few months ago - card suspended out of nowhere while my EDD benefits were still depositing fine. What fixed it for me was that Money Network flagged my account because I'd used the card in two different cities within a short time period. They thought it was fraud. Once I called and verified my identity they unfroze it pretty quickly, took maybe 20 minutes on the phone total once I got through to someone. The key is just reaching an actual human being which yeah... easier said than done. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through - it's a service that navigates the phone queue for you and calls you back when an agent is ready. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 if you want to see how it works. Saved me probably 3-4 hours of hold time.

0 coins

Wait this sounds like exactly what happened to me - I did use the card at a gas station and then a grocery store in different areas the same day. So it flagged as fraud? That would make total sense. And I'll look into that Claimyr thing, I'm desperate at this point.

0 coins

claimyr works for the main EDD line but does it work for Money Network too? they're different phone systems right

0 coins

Good question - I used it for the main EDD line when I had a payment hold on my claim, not specifically for Money Network. For the card itself I ended up just getting through after calling early morning on a Tuesday.

0 coins

seconding Claimyr for EDD phone issues in general. used it twice now and both times got through without the insane hold times

0 coins

OK I'm going to be the one to ask the obvious question - have you tried the Money Network app or website first? A lot of card issues can be resolved without even calling. You can unlock a temporarily frozen card right from the app sometimes. Log into your Money Network account at mymoneynetwork.com and look under card management. There should be an option to review alerts and potentially restore your card status if it was auto-suspended for security reasons.

0 coins

I tried the website but it just shows suspended status with no option to change it. The app also just shows the status with no way to fix it. Maybe I'm missing something?

0 coins

If there's no self-service option then yeah you definitely need to call. The self-service unlock only works for certain suspension types. If it's been flagged for identity verification it HAS to go through a live agent. That's probably what happened.

0 coins

same experience here. the app is useless for anything more than checking your balance honestly

0 coins

This happened to my cousin and it turned out California EDD had actually put a hold on the payments because of an adjudication issue but the money already deposited was also frozen as part of it. Not exactly the same as what you're describing but wanted to mention it because sometimes the card suspension and a claim issue happen at the same time and you need to call BOTH Money Network AND EDD separately to fully resolve it. Make sure you check your UI Online account too and look for any notices or messages.

0 coins

Oh no. I just checked UI Online and there IS a message I hadn't seen saying my claim needs additional review. Could these two things be connected?

0 coins

They can definitely be connected. If EDD flagged your claim, they sometimes communicate that to Money Network which can trigger a card suspension as a protective measure. You might need to resolve the EDD side first.

0 coins

This is accurate. If there's an adjudication hold on the California EDD side, resolving that often automatically lifts the Money Network restriction too. I'd prioritize getting through to EDD about that claim review notice.

0 coins

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AND NOBODY COULD GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER FOR WEEKS. I called Money Network and they said call EDD. I called EDD and they said call Money Network. I went in literal circles for two and a half weeks while I had a positive balance on my card that I couldn't access. The whole system is designed to make you give up I swear. My landlord was threatening late fees during all of this. It's completely unacceptable that there's no coordination between these two departments when someone's card gets suspended.

0 coins

This is exactly what I'm afraid of - getting bounced back and forth. I'm sorry you went through that, how did it finally get resolved?

0 coins

eventually got through to an EDD supervisor who could see both the claim hold AND contact the Money Network department directly on my behalf. That's the secret - you need EDD to do a three-way coordination thing. Regular front-line agents just give you the runaround.

0 coins

this is actually good to know. so ask specifically for a supervisor who can coordinate with Money Network? filing that away.

0 coins

For what it's worth here's the breakdown of the two different phone systems so people stop getting confused: Money Network EDD card: 1-800-684-7051 (card issues, PIN resets, disputes, suspicious activity, card replacement) California EDD Unemployment: 1-800-300-5616 (claim status, adjudication, weekly certifications, payment holds, eligibility questions) They are completely separate systems run by different companies. Money Network is a third-party card processor. EDD is the state agency. If you have a card issue AND a claim issue like OP seems to have, you technically need to contact both, but starting with EDD makes more sense since the claim status drives everything else.

0 coins

This is the clearest breakdown I've seen. Thank you. I'm going to call EDD first about that review notice and then deal with Money Network after.

0 coins

saving this comment. i never knew there were two totally separate numbers

0 coins

should probably pin this somewhere lol everyone asks this

0 coins

When I had adjudication issues on my California EDD claim I tried both numbers for days. The Money Network line actually has shorter hold times but they genuinely cannot help with claim-level issues. For the EDD line I had the best luck using Claimyr - you go to claimyr.com, they basically work through the phone system on your behalf and connect you to a live EDD agent. There's a YouTube video showing how the whole thing works (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10). My adjudication issue was resolved in a single call once I actually got through to someone who could see my full claim file.

0 coins

is claimyr legit? never heard of it before

0 coins

Yeah it's legit, been around for a while specifically for EDD phone access issues. The video explains it pretty well.

0 coins

I watched the video, looks straightforward. I think I'm going to try this for the EDD call specifically since that seems to be the root issue.

0 coins

honestly if your card shows suspended and you also have a claim review notice those two things happening at the same time is not a coincidence. i'd bet money there was some kind of identity flag on your account. happened to me when i moved and my address didn't match what EDD had on file. they froze both the claim AND the card simultaneously as a security measure. took proving my identity to EDD to fix everything

0 coins

My address has been the same but I did update my phone number recently. Could that trigger something?

0 coins

Yes absolutely. Any account change can trigger a verification hold especially if it happens around the same time as a new claim or payment. Phone number change + new claim period = potential flag

0 coins

This is correct. California EDD has automated fraud detection that flags multiple account changes or inconsistencies. A phone number update can trigger a review requirement. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, you just need to verify.

0 coins

not to pile on but i also want to mention - if you have direct deposit instead of the card you don't deal with any of this Money Network stuff. once i got tired of card issues i switched to direct deposit to my bank account and have had zero problems since. just putting that out there as an option once you get this resolved

0 coins

I didn't even know you could switch to direct deposit! How do you do that?

0 coins

Log into UI Online, go to payment options, and there should be an option to add a bank account for direct deposit. It takes a few days to verify but after that payments go straight to your bank instead of the Money Network card.

0 coins

This is a solid long-term fix. The Money Network card adds an extra layer of potential issues. Direct deposit is much cleaner.

0 coins

called money network this morning for a different issue and the wait was about 45 minutes which is honestly shorter than ive experienced before. just fyi if anyone is trying to time their calls. tuesday and wednesday mornings seem to be the sweet spot for shorter waits in my experience

0 coins

45 minutes is shorter lmao that tells you everything about this system

0 coins

right?? but like compared to 2+ hours it felt like a win

0 coins

Good to know, I'll try Tuesday morning if I can't get through today

0 coins

ok wait i'm confused by this whole thread - is the Money Network card the same as the EDD debit card? i thought EDD had their own card branded as an EDD card but then i see people calling it Money Network. is it one card or two different things?

0 coins

It's the same card. California EDD issues a prepaid debit card that is processed and managed by Money Network (which is a subsidiary of Fiserv). The card might say 'EDD' on it or have California EDD branding but Money Network is the actual card processor behind it. Think of it like how a Visa card says the bank name but Visa processes the transaction.

0 coins

ohhhh ok that makes way more sense. so when people say call Money Network they mean call the number on the back of the EDD card basically?

0 coins

Exactly right. The number on the back of your California EDD debit card goes to Money Network customer service.

0 coins

I work in HR and see EDD issues come up constantly with former employees. One thing I tell everyone: when you call about a suspended card or claim hold, specifically say 'identity verification hold' when you first connect with an agent. This gets you routed to the right department faster than just saying your card isn't working. The EDD phone system has specific routing for identity verification issues versus general inquiries and it makes a difference in how quickly you get to someone who can actually resolve the problem.

0 coins

This is a really useful tip. I'll use that exact phrasing when I call.

0 coins

wish i had known this two months ago. i just said my card was suspended and got shuffled around forever

0 coins

does this work for Money Network too or just the EDD line?

0 coins

For Money Network say 'account security hold' - similar concept, gets you to their security and verification team instead of general card services.

0 coins

just here to commiserate because my EDD money network situation last month was literally the same and I want you to know it does get resolved eventually. felt completely hopeless at the time. got through to EDD after about a week of trying, they saw the review notice was just a routine re-verification, cleared it in like 10 minutes, and then Money Network automatically lifted the card suspension within 24 hours after EDD updated my account status. hang in there

0 coins

This actually makes me feel so much better. Thank you for saying this. The 24-hour timeline after EDD clears it is really helpful to know.

0 coins

yeah the Money Network system syncs with EDD periodically so once EDD updates their end it does trickle over. just takes a little time.

0 coins

Checking back on this thread - OP, did you end up getting through to anyone? Curious how it went with the claim review notice.

0 coins

UPDATE: Okay so I used Claimyr to get through to EDD because I was not going to survive another 3 hours on hold. Got connected to an agent within about 30 minutes. Turns out it was exactly what people in this thread said - my phone number update triggered an automated identity verification flag. Agent cleared it on the spot after I answered a few identity questions. Money Network card was fully unlocked within about 6 hours. The whole nightmare is over. Thank you everyone, this thread genuinely saved me so much time.

0 coins

So glad it worked out! This is a good example of why it's worth pushing through to a live agent - a lot of these holds are automated flags that get cleared quickly once a human looks at the account.

0 coins

Great outcome! And yeah Claimyr was worth it for exactly this situation. EDD hold times are brutal and a suspended card is stressful enough without adding hours of hold music on top of it.

0 coins

for anyone finding this thread later via search: summary of what worked 1. Check UI Online for any notices before calling 2. Call EDD first (1-800-300-5616) if there's a claim hold, not just Money Network 3. Say 'identity verification hold' when you reach the EDD phone system 4. Use Claimyr (claimyr.com) if you can't get through - saves hours of hold time 5. Once EDD clears their side, Money Network card often resolves automatically within 24 hours 6. If you want long-term simplicity, switch to direct deposit via UI Online
