EDD claim under review, no payments for weeks. Can't pay rent. Need advice ASAP!

I'm in a really tough spot right now. My unemployment claim is under review and I haven't received any payments in weeks. Bills are piling up and I'm struggling to cover basic expenses like rent and utilities. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get through to EDD or find temporary assistance while waiting for the claim to be processed?

Man, I feel you. I was in the same boat a few months ago. Have you tried reaching out to local charities or community orgs? Some of them offer emergency assistance for rent and utilities. It's not a permanent fix, but it might help you stay afloat until EDD gets their act together.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought about that. Do you know any specific organizations I should look into?

Check out your local United Way or Salvation Army. They often have programs or can point you in the right direction. Also, some churches run assistance programs even if youre not a member.

Don't forget to check if your city or county has any rental assistance programs! A lot of places started them during covid and some are still running.

Ugh, EDD is such a nightmare. I swear they make it impossible to get anything done on purpose. Have you tried calling them? It took me like 50 attempts but I finally got through to a human.

I've been trying to call but no luck so far. It's so frustrating. How long did it take you to finally reach someone?

It took me about a week of calling non-stop. I'd start right when they opened and just kept redialing. It's a pain but sometimes its the only way šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Pro tip: try calling right at 8:01 AM. Sometimes you can sneak in before the queue fills up. Good luck! šŸ€

Hey, I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? Kinda skeptical about paying for something like this...

I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it to finally get my claim sorted.

How long did it take for them to get through? And were you able to resolve your issue in that one call?

It took about 2 hours for them to get through, which is way faster than I ever managed on my own. And yeah, I got my issue resolved in that call. The rep was actually super helpful once I got connected.

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before and I've got some tips that might help: ā€¢ Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online message. You might need it later. ā€¢ If you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out through their online portal. Sometimes you can get a response faster that way. ā€¢ Look into applying for CalFresh (food stamps) if you haven't already. It can free up some money for other bills. ā€¢ Check if your utility companies have any hardship programs. Many do, especially since COVID. ā€¢ Don't ignore your landlord if you're late on rent. Many are willing to work out a payment plan if you communicate. ā€¢ Keep an eye on your mail and respond to ANY correspondence from EDD immediately. ā€¢ If all else fails, reach out to your local state representative's office. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with EDD issues. Hang in there. It's a broken system, but you'll get through this. šŸ’Ŗ

This should be pinned at the top of the sub tbh. So many people could benefit from this info.

The state rep tip is gold. My cousin did this and suddenly her 3-month-old claim was processed in a week. šŸ‘€

have u tried turning it off and on again? šŸ¤£ jk jk... but for real, EDD's system is so buggy sometimes logging out and back in can actually fix issues. worth a shot!

This whole situation is ridiculous. We pay into this system our whole working lives and then when we need it, it's impossible to access. The government should be ashamed.

Totally agree. We need to put pressure on our representatives to fix this broken system. It's been a problem for way too long.
