EDD Interview scheduled after I disputed incorrect last day of work date - help!

I've been put through the wringer with EDD and now I have an interview scheduled next week that has me stressed out. I was on medical leave for anxiety/depression since January, and my SDI benefits just ran out in early April. I applied for disability extension but was denied, so my doctor advised me to file for regular UI since I'm now able to work again. The problem started when I filed my UI claim. The EDD rep I spoke with basically accused me of filing incorrectly about three different issues: 1) She insisted I reported my last physical work date wrong (I put 2/14/25 when she said it should be 1/5/25 - the day before my medical leave started) 2) She claimed I misreported my severance pay (I received $5,200 and reported it for the week I got it, but she said I reported it wrong) 3) She said I should have listed my part-time employer (10 hrs/month at a retail store) as my "last employer" instead of the full-time job I had been on medical leave from The entire call was awful - she kept putting me on hold for 5-10 minutes at a time while "reviewing" things, then came back with condescending remarks about how "only she would catch these mistakes" and that I "make too much money to be claiming benefits anyway." Now I'm worried this interview will result in my claim being denied or worse, being accused of fraud. Has anyone dealt with an interview after disputing info on their claim? What should I prepare before the interview?

Ugh, this is why I HATE dealing with EDD!!! I had almost the EXACT same experience where the rep was totally power-tripping and made me feel like a criminal for applying. For your interview, make sure you have ALL your documentation ready - your last paystubs from both jobs, any medical documentation about your SDI ending, the exact dates written down, and if you have ANY emails or documents from your employer about your last day, BRING THOSE!!! They're probably interviewing you because of the discrepancy between what you reported and what your employer reported. In my case, my employer had reported a different last day than what I put because I was technically on their payroll longer than I was actually working. The EDD interviewer was much more reasonable than the first person I dealt with.

Thank you! That's really helpful. I do have emails confirming when I started my medical leave and when my doctor released me to work again. I'll gather all that documentation. Did your interviewer ask you a lot of questions or was it more about reviewing the documents?

the most important thing is be consistent in interview. dont change ur story. my cousin got in trouble cuz he said different things different times. if u reported honestly just stick to ur story and explain why u put those dates. they mainly want to see if ur lying

That makes sense. I definitely wasn't trying to misreport anything - I was just following what my HR department told me about my dates. I'll make sure to be clear and consistent about everything.

I've gone through the EDD interview process for a similar situation transitioning from SDI to UI. Here's what you need to know: 1) For disability claims that transition to UI, the "last day worked" question often causes confusion. Technically, your last day worked would be the day before your disability began (the 1/5/25 date the rep mentioned). 2) Regarding your employers, EDD regulations require you to list all employers from the past 18 months, but the primary employer should be the one where you earned the most wages during your base period. 3) For the severance pay, it should be reported for the week received, which it sounds like you did correctly. For your interview, bring: - All medical documentation showing when your disability began and ended - Documentation of your last day physically at work - Pay stubs from both employers - Any written communication about your employment status - A written timeline of events to keep yourself organized The interview is usually 15-30 minutes. Stay calm, answer questions directly, and only provide the information they ask for without volunteering extra details that might confuse things.

This is incredibly helpful! I didn't realize the "last day worked" would be the day before disability began - that makes more sense of what the rep was saying (though she could have explained it better). I'll definitely prepare a written timeline as you suggested. Thank you so much for breaking this down clearly!

Been there! That first rep was just on a power trip. I had a similar issue with dates when I transitioned from SDI to UI. My interview went fine once I explained the confusion. Just bring all your paperwork and be honest. Most of the interviewers are WAY more reasonable than the frontline phone people.

I went through something similar last year and had the WORST time trying to reach someone at EDD to explain my situation before my interview. After trying for days and always getting the "too many callers" message, I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an EDD agent within 20 minutes. The agent I spoke with before my interview helped me understand exactly what documentation I needed and what they'd be asking. Totally worth it for peace of mind - you can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd For the actual interview, just be straightforward about the confusion over your dates. In my case, they were mainly concerned about making sure I wasn't trying to double-dip benefits or claim UI for weeks I was still on SDI.

That's a great tip! I've been trying to get through to someone before my interview with no luck. I'll check out that service - I really need to talk to someone who can tell me exactly what to prepare. I'm definitely not trying to double-dip, I just want to make sure everything is reported correctly.

Just wanted to say don't worry too much! My SDI to UI transition was rocky too, and I also had an interview scheduled that had me super stressed out. The interviewer was actually really nice and mainly just wanted to confirm the timeline. They understand that the system is confusing. Just be honest about your situation and it should work out! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reassurance! It's good to hear the interviewers are understanding. I'll definitely update after my interview next week.

One thing nobody mentioned yet - make sure you clearly understand the difference between "last day physically at work" vs "last day of employment." Those are two different things that EDD asks about and people get them confused ALL THE TIME. If you were on medical leave, your last day physically at work would be the day before your leave started, but your last day of employment could be much later (when your SDI ran out, when you were terminated, etc.). Also, for the part-time job - if you continued working it while on SDI from your main job (which is allowed if your doctor approves), that complicates things further since technically that would be your "last employer" in terms of the most recent place you physically worked. The whole system is a mess!

That's exactly what happened! I stopped physically working at my main job in January but wasn't officially terminated until April when my SDI ran out. And yes, I did continue my part-time job (with reduced hours) during part of my disability period with doctor approval. No wonder there's confusion. Thanks for pointing this out - I'll make sure to clarify these distinctions during my interview.

It's scheduled for next Tuesday! I'll definitely update after it happens. I'm feeling much better prepared now thanks to all the advice here. I've gathered all my documentation and written out a clear timeline of events. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly!
