EBT fraud victims from June 3rd theft - anyone received their CalFresh reimbursement yet?

I had all my CalFresh benefits stolen on June 3rd ($875 gone in one day!) and immediately reported it to the fraud department. Submitted all the required paperwork through the county portal two days later - police report, signed affidavit, transaction history, everything they asked for. It's been almost 3 weeks now and I'm still waiting! Called yesterday and they said my claim was 'in review' but now showing as 'processing' and could take up to 30 DAYS to get my benefits back?? My kids need to eat NOW, not in another week or two. Has anyone else who got hit in that June 3rd skimming attack actually received their reimbursement yet? This is beyond frustrating!

I had my benefits stolen on June 4th (probably same skimmer group) and just got my reimbursement yesterday - took exactly 19 days from when I submitted all paperwork. They don't notify you when it's approved, it just shows up on your card. Make sure you've submitted the EBT-2259C form with all transactions highlighted, and double-check that your police report included the case number. They rejected my first submission because I forgot to include the page with the case number.

Thanks for giving me some hope! Did you just wait or did you keep calling them? I've submitted everything including the EBT-2259C form with highlighted transactions. The police report definitely has the case number on it. I'm just worried because my family is literally struggling to eat right now.

If you're waiting for EBT theft reimbursement, you can apply for emergency CalFresh benefits while your claim processes. The county should be able to issue you emergency benefits within 3 days if you qualify. Be sure to specifically ask for "expedited service" when you contact them, and explain that your family has little/no income and less than $150 in resources right now due to the theft. They're required by law to process emergency requests faster.

I'm on the same boat as you. My entire June allotment ($1,030) was stolen on June 3rd from that massive skimming operation. Submitted everything required on June 5th. Called FOUR times already and they keep saying "it's in process" but can't tell me when I'll get my money back. It's ridiculous that they expect families to just magically survive without food for a month! Have you tried reaching out to local food banks? Catholic Charities and the SF-Marin Food Bank have been helping my family in the meantime.

That's exactly my situation! They really need a better system for these emergencies. Thanks for the food bank suggestion - I'll check out what's available in my area. It just makes me so angry that we're the victims here but we're the ones having to jump through hoops and wait forever while our kids go hungry. Did they give you any indication of where your claim is in the process?

I had mine stolen back in April (different skimming incident) and it took 27 days to get my money back. The system is sooooo slow! They don't care that people are going hungry while they take their time. Try calling your county supervisor's office - that's what finally got mine processed faster.

27 days?! That's insane. Did they at least backdate your benefits or give you any compensation for having to wait so long? And thanks for the county supervisor tip - I hadn't thought of that route.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual CalFresh worker? I was in the same situation last month and kept getting the runaround with the automated system. I found this service at claimyr.com that gets you through to a real person at the county office without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. It helped me get my claim escalated to a supervisor who processed it within 48 hours. Worth a try if you're desperate!

Never heard of this service before! I'm definitely desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did you talk to someone who was actually helpful once you got through? My experience with the regular line is that even when I do reach someone, they just read from a script and tell me to wait.

Yeah, the difference was I got connected to an actual eligibility worker instead of just a call center person. That's why it was worth it for me. The call center folks can only see basic status info, but the eligibility workers can actually look at your specific case and expedite things if needed. Ask specifically for an "expedited review due to hardship" when you get through.

The EBT theft situation is completely out of control in California! My neighbor and I both got hit in the June 3rd theft - they got her for $750 and me for $920. She got her money back yesterday, but I'm still waiting. When I called, they said the difference is she filed her police report online the same day it happened, while I waited and went in person two days later. Apparently they're processing claims in order of complete documentation. ProTip: File police report online IMMEDIATELY when you discover theft, even before calling EBT fraud line.

That's really helpful info, thank you! I did file my police report right away but submitted everything else two days later. Maybe that's why mine is taking longer. It's just so stressful not knowing when the money will come back.

Just to clarify something - while they do process in order of complete documentation, your claim won't be denied just because you waited a few days. The regulations (MPP Section 16-705) give you 10 days from discovery to report the theft. But you're absolutely right that filing immediately speeds up the process.

I work with a local assistance organization, and we're seeing tons of these cases right now. That June 3rd skimming operation hit hundreds of people across multiple counties. Here's what you need to know: 1. Yes, it can take up to 30 days by law (actually, up to 90 days if they need to investigate further). 2. The state has been overwhelmed with fraud claims, which is causing delays. 3. While waiting, you can: - Apply for emergency replacement benefits (separate from your claim) - Contact your county supervisor's office for help expediting - Reach out to local food banks (every county has emergency food assistance) - File a complaint with CDSS if it exceeds 30 days Also, make sure you've changed your PIN and are checking your balance daily. These skimmer groups often hit the same cards multiple times.

You need to contact your county CalFresh office and specifically request "emergency replacement benefits due to EBT theft hardship." This is different from your theft claim. These are issued under disaster/emergency provisions and can be approved within 3 days if you have less than $100 in resources and minimal income available. Bring ID and proof of the theft (like a copy of your police report and EBT transaction history showing the unauthorized transactions).

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone helpful at the county office! They told me my claim was approved yesterday and the funds should be on my card within 24-48 hours. They also said they're prioritizing households with children under the expedited process. For anyone else waiting - keep calling and specifically ask for your claim to be reviewed for expedited processing if you have children or vulnerable household members. Will update again when the money actually appears on my card.

That's great news! Thanks for updating us. How did you get through to an actual helpful person? I'm still trying to get mine expedited.

I actually tried that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above and got connected to a worker who could actually see my full case file instead of just basic status info. Made a huge difference! The regular EBT customer service line was useless - those people can't actually do anything for theft claims.
