Are CalFresh Emergency Allotments still happening in November 2025?

Does anyone know if they're still doing emergency allotments for CalFresh in November? I heard from my neighbor they might be bringing them back because of the rising food costs, but I can't find anything official. My family really depended on those extra benefits during COVID, and with groceries so expensive now, we're struggling again. My EBT only gets loaded with the regular amount on the 10th and it barely lasts two weeks for my kids and me. Has anyone received notice about emergency allotments returning?

That's what I thought too, but my neighbor swore they got a text about it. Maybe they confused it with something else...

Emergency allotments for CalFresh ended permanently when the federal public health emergency ended in early 2023. There are currently no plans to bring them back for November 2025 or any other month. Your regular monthly benefit is now the maximum amount you can receive based on your household size and income. However, benefit amounts were adjusted for inflation in October 2025, so you might have seen a small increase in your regular benefits. If you're struggling, I'd recommend reporting any changes that could increase your benefits (like higher rent, utility costs, or medical expenses for seniors/disabled household members).

THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Prices have gone up like 40% since COVID and they expect us to survive on the same benefits?? The "adjustments" are a joke - my benefits went up $23 last month. Try feeding a family with that! The emergency allotments should be PERMANENT!!

I'm in the same boat... groceries are SO expensive now and my regular benefits just don't stretch far enough. I tried calling my county worker to ask about any extra help available but kept getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes. It's so frustrating when you can't even get answers! Does anyone know if there are other programs or food banks that might help? We're a family of 4 and I'm down to ramen for the last week of the month :

If you're having trouble reaching your county office, try using Claimyr. It's been a lifesaver for me - they call the county for you and get you connected to a real person without the wait. I used it last month when my recertification was pending and got through immediately. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Definitely worth it when you're desperate for answers about your benefits!

Thank you so much! I've never heard of this but I'll definitely check it out. So tired of getting disconnected over and over.

There are no emergency allotments anymore, but if your circumstances have changed, you can request a mid-period adjustment to your CalFresh benefits. Changes that can increase your benefits include: - Decrease in household income - Someone joining your household - New/increased shelter costs (rent/utilities) - New/increased child care expenses - New/increased child support payments - Medical expenses over $35/month for elderly or disabled household members You don't have to wait for your SAR7 or recertification to report these changes. Call your county office or update through BenefitsCal online.

Thank you for this information! My rent actually went up $300 last month but I didn't report it because I thought I had to wait for my SAR7 in January. I'll definitely call tomorrow to report this change.

my cousin works for the county and she said theres absolutly no emergency allotments coming back. your neighbor probbly got confused with the yearly COLA (cost of living adjustment) that happnes each october. its usally like 5-10% increase in regular benefits, not a seprate payment. it gets added to ur normal amount automatically

I miss those emergency allotments SO MUCH. I got a whopping $95 extra back during covid and now im struggling every month without it. Called my case worker last week about something similar and they said there's definitely no extra emergency benefits coming. Your neighbor probably heard about the CalFood program which is different - it's for food banks not EBT

What's the CalFood program? Is that something individuals can apply for directly or only through food banks?

To add some additional resources since emergency allotments aren't returning: 1. Check with local food banks - many have increased their distribution since regular SNAP benefits returned to normal levels 2. If you have children in school, make sure they're signed up for free/reduced school meals 3. Look into WIC if you have children under 5 or are pregnant/breastfeeding 4. Some counties have General Assistance programs with food vouchers 5. Call 211 for additional food resources in your area Also, be sure your SAR7 and recertification forms are submitted on time to avoid any gaps in your regular benefits.

Thanks for mentioning WIC - I always thought you couldn't get both WIC and CalFresh at the same time! Will definitely look into that for my 3-year-old.

Thank you for these resources! I'll definitely call 211 and see what food banks are in my area.

I just had my CalFresh recertification interview yesterday and specifically asked about any additional benefits or emergency allotments. The worker confirmed they ended years ago and there are no plans to bring them back for November or anytime soon. She did mention that they can sometimes provide one-time emergency benefits in very specific crisis situations (like if your home burned down or you had to evacuate due to a natural disaster), but nothing related to general inflation or food costs.

did they say anything about the SNAP 2.0 program i keep hearing rumors about? supposedly its going to increase benefits by like 30% next year

No, they didn't mention anything called SNAP 2.0. I asked specifically about any upcoming increases and they only mentioned the regular annual cost of living adjustment that already happened in October.
