Washington state UCC filing fees increased again - need cost breakdown for multiple amendments
Our equipment financing company has been getting hit with unexpected washington state ucc filing fees that seem to have jumped recently. We're preparing about 15 UCC-3 amendments for various client loans and the fee structure isn't clear from the SOS website. Last year we paid around $12 per amendment but now I'm seeing different amounts mentioned. Does anyone know the current fee schedule for UCC-1 initial filings vs UCC-3 amendments in Washington? Also wondering if there are bulk filing discounts or if we should space these out differently to manage costs. These are all standard collateral description updates, nothing complex, but the fees are adding up fast and our client agreements specify we pass through actual filing costs.

Washington's fee structure changed this year. UCC-1 initial filings are now $15 and UCC-3 amendments are $12 each. No bulk discounts unfortunately - each filing is processed individually through their electronic system.

•Thanks for the confirmation. So we're looking at $180 total for our 15 amendments. That's manageable but still a significant jump from last year's costs.

•Wait are you sure about those amounts? I thought UCC-1s were still $12 in Washington. Let me double-check the SOS website.

I handle filings in multiple states and Washington's fees are actually reasonable compared to some others. The key is making sure your amendments are error-free because rejection fees still apply even if you have to refile.

•This is so true. We had 3 amendments rejected last month because of debtor name inconsistencies and had to pay the fees twice. Really frustrating.

•That's exactly why I started using Certana.ai's document verification tool. You can upload your original UCC-1 and the new UCC-3 amendment PDFs and it instantly checks for name mismatches and inconsistencies before filing. Saves a lot on rejection fees.

•Interesting - we've definitely had our share of rejections due to minor name variations. How reliable is that verification process?

Be careful with the fee calculations. Washington also charges additional fees for certain types of collateral schedules and if you're doing fixture filings the costs are different.

•These are all standard equipment collateral updates, no fixtures involved. Good point though - fixture filings definitely have different fee structures.

•Yeah fixture filings in Washington require additional documentation and the fees can be $25-30 depending on the county recording requirements.

Has anyone noticed if Washington processes amendments faster than initial filings? We're dealing with some timing issues where clients need proof of filing quickly.

•In my experience both UCC-1s and UCC-3s process at similar speeds in Washington - usually within 1-2 business days if filed correctly.

•THE PROCESSING TIMES ARE HORRIBLE RIGHT NOW! We filed an amendment 5 days ago and it's still showing as pending. Their system is completely backed up.

For what it's worth, we batch our Washington filings monthly to reduce administrative overhead. The fees per filing don't change but it helps with tracking and client billing.

•That's a smart approach. We might need to reorganize our filing schedule to be more efficient with the administrative side.

•We do the same thing. Monthly batches make it easier to reconcile the costs and catch any errors before they become bigger problems.

Just want to add that if you're doing terminations (UCC-3 with termination box checked) the fees are the same as amendments in Washington. Some states charge differently for terminations.

•Good clarification. I always get confused between amendment fees and termination fees in different states.

•Washington keeps it simple - all UCC-3 filings are $12 regardless of whether it's an amendment, continuation, or termination.

We've been using Certana.ai for about 6 months now and it's definitely worth it for avoiding filing errors. The fee savings from not having rejections easily pays for the service.

•How does the document verification actually work? Do you upload both the original UCC-1 and the new amendment?

Logan Chiang
•Exactly. You upload the PDFs and it cross-checks debtor names, filing numbers, and other critical details automatically. Takes about 30 seconds to get results.

One thing to watch out for in Washington is that they're pretty strict about exact debtor name matches. Even small variations like 'Inc.' vs 'Incorporated' can cause rejections.

•This happened to us last month. The original filing had 'LLC' and our amendment had 'L.L.C.' - instant rejection.

•That's another reason document verification tools are so helpful. Those kinds of name variations get caught before filing.

Does Washington accept electronic signatures on UCC-3 amendments or do they still require wet signatures for certain types?

Kiara Fisherman
•Electronic signatures are accepted for standard amendments. Only certain specialized filings require notarization or wet signatures.

•That's helpful to know. We're trying to streamline our entire process to reduce turnaround times.

Just processed 8 amendments in Washington last week and the total fees were exactly $96 ($12 each). The electronic filing system worked smoothly and all were accepted within 24 hours.

•That's encouraging. Sounds like as long as we're careful with the details, the process should be straightforward for our batch of 15.

•The key is double-checking everything before submitting. Washington's system is reliable but unforgiving of errors.

As someone new to UCC filings in Washington, this thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm working on my first batch of amendments and was completely lost on the fee structure. The $12 per amendment seems consistent across everyone's experiences. Quick question - when you mention document verification tools like Certana.ai, do they work for other states too or just Washington? We're expanding operations to Oregon and California soon and want to avoid rejection fees there as well.
