StudentAid.gov stuck loading when trying to login - SAVE Plan injunction issues?
Trying to access my FAFSA account on StudentAid.gov since yesterday but it just gets stuck on the loading screen after entering my username/password. I noticed there's a message about some court injunction affecting the SAVE Plan? Anyone else having this problem? I've tried clearing cache and using different browsers but nothing works. Getting stressed because I need to check my SAI calculation before my college's decision deadline next week!

•Good to know it's not just me! Any luck getting through at all? I tried at like 2am thinking maybe the server would be less busy but still nothing.

THIS IS TYPICAL GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE!!! The SAVE Plan injunction happened WEEKS ago and they're still having website issues?? I've been calling the 1-800 number for THREE DAYS with no answer. My daughter's financial aid is DELAYED because of this mess. How are we supposed to make college decisions without knowing aid amounts??

•dont blame the ppl at fafsa, its the court that caused this. my cousin works at dept of education says they're overwhelmed with all the changes

•I don't care WHO'S fault it is - it's UNACCEPTABLE for a government website to be down this long during peak FAFSA season!!! People's futures are at stake!!

The site issues are related to the injunction against the SAVE plan that was issued by the federal court. This requires FSA to update their systems across multiple platforms, including the login authentication system. According to the Federal Student Aid Twitter account, they're experiencing intermittent outages during this transition period. They're recommending trying during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) and ensuring you're using the latest version of your browser with all cookies cleared.

•Thanks for explaining! Do you know if this will affect our SAI calculations? I already received my aid package but now I'm worried my numbers might change because of this injunction thing.

•If you've already received your aid package for 2024-2025, your SAI calculation shouldn't change. The injunction primarily affects the SAVE plan for student loan repayment, not the initial FAFSA calculations. However, it might impact future income-driven repayment options when you graduate. The site issues are more about system updates than changes to your specific financial aid.

I had the same loading issue yesterday but managed to get in today around 6:30am. It seems like they're doing maintenance or updates at specific times. I noticed that on my dashboard there's now a banner about the SAVE Plan litigation that wasn't there before. Maybe try really early morning?

I've been dealing with FAFSA website issues for the past week too. After trying with no success, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual FAFSA agent. They have this service that calls FSA for you and connects you once an agent is on the line - saved me hours of hold time. The agent explained they're experiencing technical difficulties while implementing changes required by the court injunction. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. The agent was able to verify my application status even though I couldn't access the website.

•That's super helpful, thank you! Did the agent mention when they expect the website to be fully functional again? I'll check out that service if I still can't get in tomorrow.

•The agent said they're hoping to have it stable by this weekend, but couldn't guarantee it. They recommended trying between 5-7am Eastern time when traffic is lowest. Also mentioned that mobile devices seem to be having better luck than computers for some reason.

I'm a college financial aid advisor, and we've been getting lots of calls about this issue. Here's what we know: 1. The site is experiencing intermittent outages due to system updates related to the court injunction against parts of the SAVE Plan 2. This does NOT affect your existing FAFSA information or SAI calculations for this year 3. The outages are expected to continue through this week but should resolve by early next week 4. If you absolutely need access now, you can request your college financial aid office to look up your information in their system, as they have separate access 5. The FSA technical support team is aware of the issue and working on it Hope this helps ease some anxiety!

UPDATE: For anyone else having this issue, I got through by using a private browsing window on Firefox (Chrome still didn't work for me). The site is definitely slower than usual but I was able to check my aid status. Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions!

•Thanks for sharing that tip! Firefox private browsing worked for me too when regular Chrome wouldn't. Weird but I'll take it!

As someone who's been through this process multiple times (helping my kids with FAFSA), I can confirm that these types of technical issues unfortunately happen every year around this time, but they usually resolve within a few days. The SAVE Plan injunction is definitely adding extra complications this year though. For future reference, I've found that the site tends to be most stable very early in the morning (like 5-6 AM) or late at night after 11 PM. Also, if you're still having trouble, don't forget that many public libraries have computers you can try if your home setup isn't working - sometimes a completely different network/computer combination does the trick. Hang in there everyone!
