How to find or add colleges to my daughter's FAFSA college list?
I'm helping my daughter with her FAFSA application for 2025-2026, and we submitted it last week. But now she's interested in a different college that we didn't include originally. I can't remember where to find the list of colleges we selected during the application. Is there a way to view her current college list on studentaid.gov? And if this new school isn't on there, can we still add it even though we already submitted? I'm worried we might have to start the whole application over again. Any help would be appreciated!

Don't worry! You can easily add colleges to your daughter's FAFSA after submission. Log into studentaid.gov with your parent FSA ID (or have your daughter log in with her FSA ID). Go to the FAFSA form and select "Make FAFSA Corrections." Then navigate to the "School Selection" section. There you'll see the list of colleges you've already added, and you can add more schools (up to 10 total at one time). After making changes, be sure to sign and submit the corrected form. The changes typically process within 3-5 days.

•Thank you! That's a relief. I was afraid we'd need to start over. So we can see the schools we already put down when we go to make corrections? And once we add the new school, will they automatically get her FAFSA info or does it take some time?

•OMG yes the website is THE WORST. I swear they make it complicated on purpose!! When I was trying to add schools for my twins it kept signing me out every 5 minutes and I had to start over three times 🤬

Adding to the above advice, here's a step-by-step: 1. Go to studentaid.gov and log in 2. Click on "Apply for Aid" 3. Find "Manage My FAFSA Form" and select it 4. Choose "Edit FAFSA Form" 5. Navigate to the "School Selection" page (you'll need to click through several pages) 6. There you'll see all previously selected schools 7. You can add the new college by searching by name, state, or Federal School Code 8. You can have up to 10 schools at once on your FAFSA If you already have 10 schools and need to add another, you'll need to remove one first. After the data is processed (3-5 business days), you can then make another correction to add different schools if needed.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I was getting lost trying to find the right section. Does adding a school after submission affect my daughter's SAI score or any of the information we already submitted?

•No, adding schools won't affect your daughter's SAI (Student Aid Index) score at all. The SAI is calculated based on the financial information you provided, not the schools you selected. When you add new schools, they'll receive the same SAI and FAFSA information as your originally selected schools. The only thing that changes is which institutions receive her FAFSA data.

just FYI - u can only have 10 schools at a time on FAFSA. if u need more than that u have to wait till the first ones process then go back in and change the list. my daughter applied to 12 schools so we had to do this. kind of a pain but at least you dont have to redo the whole thing

If you're having trouble with the website or getting through on the phone to add schools, I found a service called Claimyr that helped me actually reach a real person at Federal Student Aid. It got me through to a human in about 10 minutes when I was having issues adding colleges after submission. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ I was skeptical at first but it saved me hours of frustration when I needed to make changes to my son's college list after experiencing website errors.

•Yes, it worked for me! I was able to speak with someone who walked me through fixing my son's application when I couldn't figure it out online. Saved me so much frustration after my third attempt waiting on hold for over an hour.

One important thing to mention - after you add schools to your daughter's FAFSA, it's a good idea to contact the financial aid office at the newly added school. Let them know you've recently added their school to the FAFSA and ask if there are any school-specific financial aid forms or deadlines you need to be aware of. Many schools have their own additional requirements beyond FAFSA (like the CSS Profile for some private colleges). You don't want to miss out on institutional aid because of missing a school-specific form!

•That's excellent advice. I didn't even think about school-specific forms. I'll definitely reach out to the financial aid office after we add the school. Thank you!

My daughter changed her mind like 3 times about which schools she wanted after we submitted her FAFSA lol. Just make sure when you add the new school that you have the Federal School Code handy. Makes it much faster to find the school in the system. You can usually find the code on the college's financial aid website or just google "[college name] federal school code" and it should come up.

•That can happen if there's a processing issue or if the correction wasn't properly submitted (missing signature, etc.). Always a good practice to follow up with schools about 7-10 days after making FAFSA corrections to confirm they received the information. You can also check the status on studentaid.gov to see if your correction was successfully processed.

As someone who just went through this process with my own child, I wanted to add that you should also check your email (including spam folder) for confirmation messages after making corrections. When we added schools to my daughter's FAFSA last month, we received email confirmations within 24 hours that the corrections were submitted successfully. These emails also included a summary of which schools would be receiving her FAFSA data, which gave me peace of mind. If you don't receive a confirmation email within a day or two, that might indicate there was an issue with the submission process.
