Got SS verification email after submitting FAFSA parent info - what's my next step?

Just completed the parent portion of my daughter's 2025-2026 FAFSA after she sent me the contributor link. I received an email saying "your SS administration results- successful" but I'm confused about what happens next. Do I need to log back into my account to enter my bank account information and income amounts? Or is the SS verification email just confirming that part is done? My daughter is getting anxious because her school's priority deadline is coming up, and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything important. This is my first time doing this and the studentaid.gov website isn't very clear about the next steps after the SS verification.

same thing happened to me last week! the SS email just means they verified your identity through social security admin. you dont need to enter bank info unless you want to use the IRS data retrieval tool. my son was freaking out too lol

Thank you! So do I need to do anything else at all? Or is it now in my daughter's hands to complete and submit? I don't want to mess this up for her.

The Social Security Administration successful verification email is just confirming that they've verified your identity using your SSN. It's a good sign that things are proceeding correctly. Once you've completed the parent contribution section, your daughter needs to review everything and submit the final application. There's no need to enter bank account information unless you specifically opted to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically import tax information. Make sure she reviews the entire application before submitting to verify all the information is correct. After submission, she'll receive her Student Aid Index (SAI), which schools use to determine her aid package. This typically takes 3-5 business days after submission.

Oh, that's a relief! I was worried I left something incomplete on my end. I'll let her know she needs to submit it. Do you know if there's any way for me to check if my section is 100% complete, or do I just have to trust that it went through properly?

Yes, you can check your status. Log back into studentaid.gov with your FSA ID (not your daughter's) and look for the "FAFSA Status" or "My FAFSA" section. It should show that your contribution is complete. Your daughter can also see whether your section shows as complete when she logs in to her account before submitting the final application.

this is totally wrong!!! parents cant see FAFSA status at all on studentaid.gov after they do there part! only the student can see the full status. i just went through this with my twins applications

I just went through this process with my son. Here's what you need to know: 1. The SS verification email just confirms your identity was verified. Good news! 2. As a contributor, you don't actually have a full FAFSA account - you just completed your section. 3. Now your daughter needs to go back in, review ALL information (yours and hers), and submit the complete application. 4. She's the only one who can see the full application status, so ask her to check if it shows your section as complete. 5. There's NO bank account info needed unless you specifically opted to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Even then, it's just for verification, not for deposits. If she's worried about her school's priority deadline, make sure she submits ASAP. The SAI calculation can take 3-7 days, and some schools need that number by their deadline.

Thank you so much for the clear explanation! I'll check with my daughter to make sure she sees my section as complete. Her deadline is next Friday so hopefully we're still in good shape.

Omg this new FAFSA system is SO confusing! I got the same email for my son's application and tried calling FSA for FOUR DAYS to figure out what to do next! No one ever answered!!!!! I finally got through using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a system that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available so you don't wait on hold forever. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Anyway, the agent confirmed what others said - SS verification email is just confirming they matched your SSN. Your daughter needs to complete the final submission. No bank info needed unless you're using the IRS tool.

Thank you for the tip! I'll keep that Claimyr service in mind if we run into any issues. It's frustrating how hard it is to get answers from official sources.

That's a good point! I'll have my daughter review all of our information before submitting. I'd hate to have it rejected over a simple mistake.

Financial aid professional here. Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: 1. The SSA verification email confirms your identity was successfully matched with Social Security records. This is normal and good. 2. Parents/contributors do NOT need to enter bank account information in the FAFSA. The only financial information required is income/tax data and certain assets. Bank account information is only collected if the student chooses to receive federal aid via direct deposit, and that's entered by the student, not the parent. 3. As a contributor, you completed your section. Now your daughter needs to: - Review all information (including your contribution) - Complete any remaining sections - Submit the final application - Wait for her SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation 4. Parents cannot see the full FAFSA status in their own accounts - the student is the only one who can view the complete application status. 5. After submission, the processing time for receiving an SAI is typically 3-5 business days, though it can take longer during peak periods. Hope this helps clear things up!

Thank you so much for the professional insight! This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll make sure my daughter completes and submits everything right away.
