FAFSA suddenly showing 'correction submitted today' when I only logged in - system glitch?
Something weird is happening with my students' FAFSA accounts. Three of them texted me this morning saying when they logged in to check their application status, the system shows they 'submitted a correction today' - but they literally just logged in and didn't touch anything! Has anyone else seen this glitch? I'm worried because one student already had verification issues, and I don't want this phantom 'correction' to mess up their SAI calculation or delay their financial aid package. Is the FAFSA system having problems today? Should they call FSA to explain they didn't actually make any changes?

OMG YES! This just happened to my daughter's account too!! She logged in to check her SAI score this morning and it said she made a correction. She freaked out and called me thinking she accidentally changed something. Should we be worried? Her college already downloaded her FAFSA data last week - will this mess everything up??

This is a known issue with the FAFSA portal right now. The system is registering login sessions as correction submissions in some cases, but it's not actually changing any of your information. I've been tracking this on the FSA technical issues forum, and they're aware of the problem. It started happening after their server maintenance this past weekend. The good news is that your SAI calculations and actual FAFSA data aren't being altered - it's just a display issue in the user interface.

•Thank you SO much for confirming this! Do you know if we need to do anything on our end? I'm worried the colleges might see these 'phantom corrections' and think the students changed information.

•The colleges won't see anything different. The ISIR (Institutional Student Information Record) only updates when actual changes are made to FAFSA data. This glitch is only on the user interface side and doesn't generate new ISIRs to schools. Your students' original submission data remains unchanged.

This EXACT thing happened to me and I almost had a heart attack!! I thought I accidentally changed my parents' income or something. The whole FAFSA system has been a NIGHTMARE this year. First the delayed launch, then the calculation errors, now this??? How are we supposed to trust anything on there??? And OF COURSE you can't get through to anyone on their helpline to ask about it. I've been on hold for 2 HOURS today before giving up.

•I had the same experience trying to reach someone at Federal Student Aid about this issue. After trying for days and getting disconnected or stuck on hold, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an FSA agent in 25 minutes. They confirmed it's just a display bug and no actual corrections were submitted. They're working on fixing it but don't have an ETA. You can see how the service works in this video: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ - saved me hours of frustration with the phone system.

Financial aid administrator here. This is indeed a known issue with the FAFSA portal that started approximately 36 hours ago. We've received guidance from Federal Student Aid that this is a display error only and isn't affecting the actual data in student records. Important points to note: 1. No actual corrections are being processed despite what the portal shows 2. Schools are not receiving new ISIR transactions due to this glitch 3. SAI calculations remain unaffected 4. Processing times for applications aren't impacted The technical team is working on resolving this, but there's no official timeline for the fix. Students do not need to take any action, and this won't affect verification processes that are already underway.

•Right? I feel like this entire application cycle has been one technical problem after another. I'm just hoping all these glitches don't end up delaying aid packages for the fall semester.

Does anyone know if we need to screenshot or document this somehow? I'm paranoid about verification issues since my daughter got selected last year and it was a nightmare process that delayed her aid by almost 2 months. Should we be taking any precautions just in case?

•Taking a screenshot wouldn't hurt, but it's probably unnecessary. If your daughter gets selected for verification (which is usually random), this particular issue won't be relevant to that process. Verification typically focuses on income and household information, not system display errors. But documentation is always good practice, so a screenshot with the date visible could provide peace of mind.

I just called the school my daughter applied to and they said they havent received any new fafsa data for her so I think its really just a website problem like everyone is saying. The financial aid office lady was real nice and said not to worry about it.

•That's good to hear! I'll let my students know they can relax about this. Thanks for sharing what the school said!

This whole FAFSA redesign has been such a disaster this year. My cousin works in a financial aid office and said they've never seen so many problems. Makes me think someone should be FIRED for this mess. How hard is it to have a website that actually WORKS?

For those still seeing this issue, Federal Student Aid just posted on their social media that they're aware of the problem and expect to have it resolved within 48 hours. They specifically stated: "We are aware that some FAFSA applicants are seeing incorrect 'correction submitted' messages when logging into their accounts. This is a display issue only and is not affecting your application data or processing times." So official confirmation that it's just a UI bug!

As someone who just went through this exact same panic this morning, I'm so relieved to see this thread! My FAFSA showed the same "correction submitted today" message when I literally just logged in to check my status. I was terrified I had accidentally messed something up since I'm already dealing with verification requirements. Thanks everyone for confirming it's just a system glitch - especially the financial aid administrator who explained that schools aren't receiving new data. This whole FAFSA cycle has been such a rollercoaster of technical issues, but at least this one seems harmless!
