FAFSA processed for Boise State but no financial aid package or dorm assignment yet - normal?
My daughter's set to start at Boise State this fall and I'm getting nervous about timeline stuff. The school confirmed they received her FAFSA (submitted back in January) and her housing deposit was accepted in February, but we still don't have ANY details about financial aid amounts or which residence hall she'll be in. The portal just shows "Housing: Confirmed" with no specifics. It seems so late in the game to still be waiting! For those with kids at BSU already, is this normal? When did you typically get dorm assignments and the actual financial aid package with numbers? Do they usually take this long to send the SAI breakdown? Getting really anxious as we need to budget and plan!

•End of JULY? That seems ridiculously close to when school starts! How are families supposed to plan? I'm hoping to appeal any aid that's insufficient, but that would leave barely any time.

My daughter is going into her senior year at Boise State. Here's typically how their timeline works: - FAFSA processing confirmation: 2-3 weeks after submission - Housing assignment: Late June to mid-July - Financial aid package with actual numbers: Mid-July to early August I know it feels late, but that's standard for them. If your FAFSA was processed correctly and there are no verification flags on your account, it's just a waiting game. They prioritize returning students for both housing and financial aid packages, so incoming freshmen are the last batch to get processed.

•Thank you for that detailed breakdown. It's frustrating, but at least now I know what to expect. Do you happen to know if there's a way to check if we have a verification flag? We haven't received any notices, but I'm worried something could be holding things up without us knowing.

My son got his dorm assignment on July 17th last year and the financial aid package came August 3rd. I was absolutely freaking out because we had no idea if we could afford everything until 3 weeks before move-in! Turns out they were giving him a decent scholership we didnt know about. But yea, BSU is notorious for sending everything out super late compared to other schools.

You should be able to see if there are any verification issues or FAFSA flags by logging into your FSA account at studentaid.gov. Look under the "My Aid" section - if there are any verification requirements, they would be listed there separately from the school's communication. Boise State, like many public universities, often waits until their state budget is finalized before they send out complete aid packages. Idaho's fiscal year starts July 1, which explains why they typically release financial aid packages in July rather than earlier. If you're specifically concerned about residence halls, you can contact the housing office directly at (208) 447-1001. They sometimes can give you an update on assignment timelines even before the official announcements go out.

•I checked the FSA site and thankfully don't see any verification flags. That's a huge relief. I didn't realize the state budget timing played into this - that makes more sense now. I'll try calling housing tomorrow to see if they can at least give me a general idea of the timeline. Thanks for the detailed advice!

I'm having the EXACT same issue with my son's application to Boise State!! We submitted everything in December and still just have "Housing Confirmed" with zero details. I've called their financial aid office THREE times and keep getting sent to voicemail. So frustrating!!! We need to know how much Parent PLUS loan to take out but can't do that until we see the actual aid package. This is causing so much anxiety!!!

•I had this exact issue trying to reach FSA about my daughter's application to Boise State. After weeks of frustration with the automated phone system at Federal Student Aid, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they connect you directly to a live FSA agent by holding your place in line and calling you back when someone's available. I was able to verify that her FAFSA was fully processed without flags, which gave me peace of mind while waiting for BSU's financial aid package. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. At least knowing the FAFSA side was fully processed helped me stop worrying about that part of the equation.

just wait...they do everything last minute...my kid got into chaffee hall and they sent the email like 2 weeks before move in day lol. the finaid stuff came around the same time. bsu is notorious for this.

•This is true - Chaffee Hall tends to have the latest notifications because it's their largest freshman dorm. If you requested one of the smaller halls (like Morrison or Driscoll), you might hear a bit earlier. The financial aid timeline is pretty consistent though - always mid/late July for incoming students.

A couple of practical tips that might help while you wait: 1. You can estimate your aid package using their Net Price Calculator on the BSU website. It's not perfect but gives you a general range for budgeting purposes. 2. For housing, about 80% of freshmen are placed in either Chaffee or Towers, so if your daughter didn't request a special living-learning community, she's likely in one of those two. 3. BSU usually sends important notices to the student's Bronco email, so make sure your daughter is checking that regularly. Some families miss notifications because they only check personal email accounts. 4. Aid packages are typically finalized after orientation, so if your daughter hasn't attended orientation yet, that might be another reason for the delay.

•Thank you for these practical suggestions. I didn't realize they used the Bronco email for important notices - I'll make sure she's checking it regularly. We've already done orientation (virtual) in May, so hopefully that means we're in the queue for aid packages soon. I'll try the Net Price Calculator in the meantime to get a rough estimate.

Has your daughter completed the CSS Profile too? Boise State uses both FAFSA and CSS Profile for some of their scholarships. We didn't realize this at first and almost missed out on a merit scholarship because we thought just the FAFSA was enough!

Niko Ramsey
•Wait, what? I thought the CSS Profile was only for private schools! Boise State requires that too? No one told us about this during the application process. Now I'm really worried we missed something important. Where do you even find that information on their website?

•I should clarify here - Boise State does NOT require the CSS Profile for standard financial aid packages. They only use FAFSA for federal and state aid determination. The CSS Profile is only used for certain specialized scholarships, primarily their Honors College specific scholarships. If your daughter applied to and was accepted into the Honors College, then the CSS Profile might be relevant. Otherwise, the FAFSA is all you need.

If u reallly want to kno whats going on just go to the bronco zone portal and click on missing requirements. If it says fafsa recieved but nothin else is checked then ur just waiting for them to process everything. BSU is super slow every yr but they come thru eventually. My kid got a pretty good pacakge in the end.

•I just checked the portal again and it does say FAFSA received with no missing requirements. I guess that means we're just in the waiting period like everyone else has mentioned. It's frustrating but at least it's normal. Thanks for the tip about checking that specific section.
