FAFSA form stuck 'In Progress' for 2+ weeks despite all signatures - how to move forward?
I'm beyond frustrated with the 2024-25 FAFSA right now. My son and I both completed our sections and BOTH signed electronically over 2 weeks ago, but the status is still showing 'In Progress' instead of 'Submitted'! The tracker shows we're on step 1 (FAFSA Form Started) but won't move to step 2 (FAFSA Form Submitted) even though we've literally done everything. The form shows as started on Feb 17 with an expiration of June 30, 2025. I've checked multiple times daily to see if something changed. The status tracker clearly shows it's stuck at step 1, saying "The student should complete most of the form themself, including their personal and financial information. You must fill out the section assigned to you. Once all required sections are complete, everyone must sign and submit." But we DID sign and submit! My son needs this processed ASAP for scholarship deadlines. Has anyone else encountered this glitch? Is there a hidden 'submit' button we're missing somewhere? I've tried logging out/in, different browsers, everything I can think of.

•Have you found ANY solution? I've tried calling and can't get through to anyone!

This is a known issue with the new FAFSA system. The "Actions" dropdown in the top right - have you clicked that and selected the final submit option there? Sometimes the signatures register but the final submission doesn't process correctly. Also, try checking if there are any yellow alerts or warnings throughout the form that might need addressing before final submission.

•Thank you! I just checked and there is an "Edit Form" option in the Actions dropdown, but nothing that says submit. I wonder if we need to go back through each section to find something we missed, but it's so frustrating because it shows all sections as complete and signed!

the new fafsa is such trash lol my brother had the EXACT same problem. ended up being that even though they signed everything, there was some random contribution agreement buried in the parent section that didnt register properly. try going through every single page again sorry its such a pain

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did he have to redo the signatures after finding whatever was missed?

•yeah they had to redo all the signatures after fixing whatever random thing was missed. so stupid.

I work in a financial aid office, and we've seen this issue repeatedly this year. The most common causes are: 1. Missing parent contribution authorization (even though it says signatures are complete) 2. A household member's information wasn't fully entered 3. The system didn't properly register your tax information Unfortunately, the only reliable solution is to go through the ENTIRE form again, page by page, looking for anything with a yellow warning triangle. The new system doesn't always make it obvious what's missing. Also, check if any sections show as "In Progress" rather than "Complete" in the left navigation menu.

•Thank you so much for the detailed answer. I'll go through it again section by section. So frustrating they would mark signatures as complete when there's still something missing! Really appreciate the help.

Hey, this happened to me too and it was DRIVING ME CRAZY. I finally had to call FSA directly and have them manually look at my application. Turns out there was a glitch where the system didn't register my parent's electronic signature correctly even though it SHOWED as signed! The rep manually released the form for processing. I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual FSA agent in about 10 minutes instead of waiting for hours or getting disconnected. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Seriously worth it for something this important. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone and my form status changed to "Submitted" within 24 hours.

•Thank you for the suggestion! I've been trying to call for days and just get disconnected. I'll check out that service - at this point I just need to talk to a human who can look at our application.

The FAFSA website is a joke. I swear they designed it to be as confusing as possible. My daughter and I went through this exact thing in March. We had to completely delete the application and start over because even going through it page by page didn't fix whatever invisible error was holding it up. The FSA ID system is equally trash - my password works one day and not the next!! The government should be ashamed of this garbage system that determines people's educational futures.

•While starting over is sometimes necessary, I'd recommend trying to fix the existing application first. With the new 2024-25 FAFSA, deleting and restarting can sometimes create new problems with the data retrieval tool. Try one more thorough review before taking that step.

•Fair enough, but after spending 5+ hours trying to find the mysterious error, starting over actually saved us time in the end. The whole system is garbage and I stand by that!

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at Federal Student Aid! The issue was that even though both signatures showed as complete, there was something called a "submission verification" that hadn't registered properly. The agent had to manually override something in their system. For anyone else stuck in this situation - keep trying to get through to an actual person. They fixed it in 5 minutes once I finally reached someone. My status now shows as "Submitted" and the agent said we should see "Processed" within 3-5 business days.

•Glad you got it resolved! This is a common issue with the new FAFSA system that hopefully they'll fix in future updates. For other students: remember that processing can take 3-7 days after submission, and you'll receive your SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation by email once processing is complete.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! My FAFSA has been stuck at "In Progress" for almost 3 weeks even though my parent and I both completed our sections and signed electronically. It's so stressful watching scholarship deadlines approach while this system glitch holds everything up. Victoria, thank you for posting the update about getting through to FSA - that gives me hope! I've been trying to call but keep getting busy signals or disconnected after waiting on hold forever. Going to keep trying based on your success story. It's ridiculous that a "submission verification" can fail silently like that while showing signatures as complete. Has anyone else had luck with that Claimyr service Ryan mentioned? At this point I'm willing to try anything to get through to an actual human who can fix this mess.

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! The whole system is incredibly frustrating. I actually did end up using Claimyr after reading Ryan's suggestion - it cost like $20 but honestly was worth every penny to avoid the endless hold times and disconnections. Got through to an FSA agent in about 15 minutes and they fixed the "submission verification" issue right away. The agent explained that this is happening to a lot of people with the new FAFSA system - apparently the electronic signature process sometimes completes on the user end but doesn't properly register on their backend servers. It's a known glitch they're working on but in the meantime, manual override is the only solution. Don't give up! Keep trying to get through to someone because once you do, they can fix it super quickly. The waiting and uncertainty is the worst part but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

This thread has been so helpful! I'm a first-time FAFSA filer and have been panicking about this exact issue for the past week. My daughter and I completed everything and signed, but it's been stuck on "In Progress" status. Reading about the "submission verification" glitch explains so much - the system really shouldn't show signatures as complete if there's still a backend issue preventing actual submission. I'm going to try calling FSA again tomorrow armed with this knowledge, and if I can't get through, I'll look into that Claimyr service. It's frustrating that we need to pay extra just to reach the people who can fix their own system's bugs, but scholarship deadlines wait for no one. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions!

•Don't panic - you're definitely not alone in this! I just went through the same nightmare with my son's FAFSA. The "submission verification" glitch seems to be hitting tons of people this year. One thing that might help while you're trying to reach FSA - make sure to document everything (screenshots of the completed signatures, dates, etc.) so you have proof if needed. Also, when you do get through to an agent, ask them specifically about the "submission verification" issue that Victoria mentioned - it seems like the reps are familiar with this particular glitch and can fix it quickly once they know what to look for. Good luck!!

Ugh, this is happening to me too! Been stuck for 10 days now and I'm losing my mind. My mom and I both signed everything but it won't move past step 1. I've been too scared to mess with it because I don't want to accidentally break something, but seeing Victoria's update gives me hope that calling FSA is the way to go. The fact that this "submission verification" thing can fail silently while showing everything as complete is absolutely infuriating - like how are students supposed to know there's even a problem?? Thank you all for sharing your experiences, at least now I know I'm not crazy and this is a real system issue. Going to try calling tomorrow!

•You're definitely not crazy - this submission verification glitch is affecting so many people right now! I totally understand being scared to mess with the form when you've already put so much work into it. When you call FSA tomorrow, definitely mention the "submission verification" issue specifically like others have suggested. From what I've been reading in this thread, the agents seem to know exactly what that means and can fix it quickly. It's so reassuring to see Victoria and others got it resolved once they reached the right person. Don't give up - you've got this!

I'm a newcomer to this community but dealing with the exact same frustrating issue! My FAFSA has been stuck at "In Progress" for over a week now despite both my parent and I completing all sections and signing electronically. The status tracker won't budge from step 1 even though everything appears complete on our end. Reading through this thread has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about the "submission verification" glitch that can happen behind the scenes while still showing signatures as complete. It's honestly ridiculous that the system can fail silently like this, especially when students have scholarship deadlines looming. Victoria, thank you so much for sharing your update about getting it resolved through FSA! That gives me hope that there's actually a solution. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow armed with the knowledge about this specific glitch. If I can't get through after a few attempts, I might look into that Claimyr service that Ryan and Mason mentioned - seems like it could be worth the cost to avoid the endless hold times. Has anyone had any luck with specific times of day for reaching FSA? I'm wondering if calling early morning or late afternoon might have better success rates. This whole situation is so stressful but at least now I know I'm not alone in dealing with this system bug!

•Welcome to the community, Katherine! I'm also dealing with this exact same issue - it's so frustrating but at least we're all in this together. From what I've been reading in other FAFSA groups, early morning (around 8-9 AM EST) seems to have the best success rates for getting through to FSA since that's when they open and the phone queues are less backed up. Late afternoon around 4-5 PM can also work well since some people give up calling by then. Definitely avoid calling during lunch hours (12-2 PM) as that seems to be the worst time. Good luck with your call tomorrow - hopefully you can get that submission verification glitch fixed as quickly as Victoria did!

As a newcomer to this community, I'm so relieved to find this thread! I've been dealing with the exact same issue for the past 12 days - my FAFSA shows "In Progress" even though my mom and I both completed and signed everything. I was starting to think I was doing something wrong, but reading about this "submission verification" glitch explains everything. Victoria, your update about getting it resolved through FSA is incredibly helpful! I've been hesitant to call because I wasn't sure what to even ask for, but now I know to specifically mention the submission verification issue. The fact that this can fail silently while showing signatures as complete is absolutely maddening - how are we supposed to know there's even a problem? I'm definitely going to try calling FSA tomorrow morning based on Sofia's timing suggestions. If that doesn't work, I might look into the Claimyr service too. It's frustrating that we might need to pay extra to reach support for their own system bug, but with college deadlines approaching, it seems worth it. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it's such a relief to know this is a known issue with a solution!
