FAFSA data mysteriously changing for triplets' applications - missing savings accounts and incorrect SSN info
I'm completely baffled and frustrated with our triplets' FAFSA applications! Two of my daughters got error messages, so we carefully reviewed each application page by page. Somehow their savings account information completely disappeared from their forms - I KNOW we entered this data when we first submitted their applications.\n\nThen it gets weirder. When checking the parent section on all three applications, we encountered error codes. In the spouse information section, there's a checkbox marked indicating my spouse 'does not have a Social Security number' - which is 100% false! We absolutely did NOT check that box during submission.\n\nHow is information randomly changing in our FAFSA applications after we've already submitted them? All three of my kids' applications are now stuck in limbo, and we're getting concerned about missing priority deadlines for financial aid. Has anyone else experienced FAFSA data changing mysteriously after submission? Any advice on how to get this fixed quickly?

This happened to me with my twins last year! The FAFSA system occasionally has synchronization issues that can cause data to appear differently after submission than what you entered. For the savings accounts, check if they were entered in the student or parent assets section - sometimes the system moves them. For the SSN issue, this is a known glitch in the 2025-2026 FAFSA platform.\n\nYou need to:\n1. Take screenshots of the incorrect information\n2. Call FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243\n3. Request that they unlock specific sections for correction\n4. Ask them to document in your case notes that this was a system error\n\nMake sure to mention all three applications are affected so they can link the cases. And triple-check all sections after corrections - sometimes fixing one issue creates another!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! Did you have to call separately for each of your twins' applications? I'm worried about getting disconnected and having to start over multiple times with different representatives who might not understand the whole situation.

calling FSA is the WORST! i spent 3 hours on hold last week and got disconnected twice. total waste of time. their system is garbage.

are u sure nobody else has access to the accounts? my ex somehow got into our daughter's FAFSA last year and messed up a bunch of stuff trying to make himself look poorer lol. check if any of your kids might have gone back in and accidentally changed things too

That's a scary thought! But no, I'm the only one with the account login info. My spouse doesn't even have the password, and I've confirmed with my daughters that they haven't accessed the parent portions. It really seems like a system glitch.

This is definitely a synchronization issue with the new FAFSA system. I've seen this exact problem with the spouse SSN checkbox incorrectly being marked in at least 7 applications I've helped with this year. The savings account disappearance is also consistent with data migration errors in the new system.\n\nThe most efficient solution is to request a \

Yes, that's exactly why. The system often has trouble handling multiple applications from the same parent/household submitted in close succession. The database doesn't properly isolate each student's data stream, causing cross-contamination. Triplets or twins tend to trigger this issue more frequently because their applications share so many identical data points in the parent sections.

Having huge probs with FAFSA too this year!! So frustrating!! Did you use the same device for all 3 kids applications? Sometimes browser caching causes weird glitches where it remembers old info or mixes up data between forms. Try clearing cache or using different browser maybe??

We did use the same laptop for all three applications! That's an interesting point about browser caching - I hadn't considered that. We'll try using a different device for the corrections and see if that helps.

After struggling to get through to FSA for two weeks about a similar issue with my daughter's application, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in under 10 minutes. They were able to unlock just the specific sections we needed to fix rather than resetting the whole application. Saved us from having to redo everything! They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nThe agent I spoke with confirmed there's a known issue with the spouse SSN checkbox getting automatically marked for some reason. For the savings account issue, they suggested printing the corrected application summary PDF after making changes as proof in case it happens again.

Yes, it worked for me! I was skeptical too after spending hours trying to get through normally. The agent I got was super helpful and even noted in our file that the error was on their end, not ours, so we wouldn't be penalized for the late correction.

Thanks for the recommendation! At this point I'll try anything to get this resolved. With three kids applying to college simultaneously, we can't afford delays in their financial aid packages. I'll check out that service.

the new FAFSA is a TOTAL DISASTER!! our family info disappeared twice and then randomly my son's application said we owned a farm?!?! we live in an apartment lol. had to start completely over. good luck!!!!

omg the farm thing happened to us too!! so weird. wonder if its because of the question about farming income and the system just automatically checks something?

It might be worth checking if there's a pattern to when these changes occurred. The FAFSA system runs maintenance operations usually between 2-5am ET on Sundays. If your data changed during that window, it's almost certainly a system maintenance issue rather than a user error or security problem. \n\nFor triplets specifically, I recommend:\n\n1. Request a case number for all three applications\n2. Ask FSA to link all three cases under one \

This is actually incredibly helpful. We did notice the issues the Monday after we submitted (which was on a Friday), so that timeline fits with the Sunday maintenance window you mentioned. I'll definitely request a unified family group ID for all three cases.

How r u handling the cost of sending 3 kids to college at once?? We have twins and im freaking out about paying for everything even with financial aid

It's definitely overwhelming! We're hoping their SAI scores will qualify them for decent aid packages. We've also had them apply to schools with good merit scholarship options, and they're all applying for every external scholarship they can find. I wish the FAFSA had better accommodations for multiple children attending simultaneously.

UPDATE: I finally got through to FSA this morning! The agent confirmed there IS a system bug affecting applications with multiple students from the same household. They're unlocking the specific sections we need to fix and putting a note in our file about the system error. For anyone else experiencing this, they said to specifically mention \
