FAFSA 2024-2025 status keeps redirecting to last year's application - can't access new SAR

I'm losing my mind trying to check on my 2024-2025 FAFSA application status! Every single time I try to view my Student Aid Report or check for action items on studentaid.gov, it keeps redirecting me to my 2023-2024 information instead. I've tried different browsers, clearing cookies, even using my phone instead of computer. Nothing works! Has anyone else had this problem? It's been 3 weeks since I submitted my application and I need to know if there are any issues before my school's priority deadline next month. Starting to panic because my financial aid package depends on this!

same here!! been trying for like 5 days straight. click on the 24-25 app but keeps showing my old stuff. super annoying

At least it's not just me! Have you found any workaround yet? I tried calling the FSA hotline but got disconnected after waiting 45 minutes 😞

This is a known issue with the studentaid.gov portal right now. The Department of Education is deploying updates to accommodate all the changes with the new FAFSA Simplification Act, and it's causing some weird redirects in the system. Here's what you can try: 1. Instead of clicking the general status links, go directly to "My Documents" and look for your 2024-2025 SAR there 2. Try accessing it very early morning (like 5-6am) when server traffic is lower 3. Make sure you're clicking specifically on the "2024-2025" link under the FAFSA section, not the general "Check Status" button If none of this works, your school's financial aid office can actually access your information on their end even if you can't see it yet. They have a different portal system.

Thank you so much for these tips! I'll try the My Documents section tonight. Should I be worried that there might be errors or missing info on my application that I can't see to fix?

I had this exact issue last week and it was driving me CRAZY!!! The website is a total mess with the new FAFSA rollout. I finally got it resolved by using the "Contact Us" feature on studentaid.gov instead of calling. They responded within 2 days and sent me a direct link to access my 24-25 SAR. The funny thing is, even THAT link redirected me the first time, but then I tried it in an incognito browser window and it worked!

The website is always glitchy this time of year but this is RIDICULOUS. I've been dealing with FAFSA for 3 kids over 7 years and every single year there's some new problem. Last year my son's verification was "under review" for 4 months with no explanation. The year before that my daughter's SAI calculation was completely wrong because they counted her summer job earnings twice somehow. Now my youngest can't even SEE her application status?? The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

I work at a university financial aid office, and I can confirm this is affecting a lot of students right now. The FSA has acknowledged the redirect issue and is working on a fix, but in the meantime: 1. Your school CAN access your information through our institutional portal even if you can't see it 2. If there are any issues requiring correction, your school will contact you directly 3. Most importantly, this glitch won't affect your priority deadline status - as long as you submitted by the deadline, you're fine even if you can't view it What's happening is the new FAFSA system is processing applications correctly, but the student-facing portal isn't displaying them properly. Rest assured your application IS in the system.

That's such a relief! So if there were any issues with my application that needed fixing, the school would let me know rather than me having to check myself? I was worried about missing something important.

Exactly. If there are any issues that require your attention (like verification, missing signatures, etc.), your school will contact you directly. The Department of Education is also sending notification emails for major issues, so keep an eye on your inbox including spam folder. Most schools are being very understanding about these technical difficulties since they're affecting so many students.

After dealing with this same problem for days, I finally got through to someone at Federal Student Aid who fixed it for me! I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get past the phone wait - they have this service where they wait on hold with FSA for you and call you when an agent picks up. Saved me from sitting on hold for 2+ hours! The agent had to manually reset something on my account. Check out their demo video if you're curious how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

Quick update for everyone: The Department of Education just posted that they'll be doing system maintenance this weekend specifically to fix this redirect issue. The portal will be down from Friday 10pm to Sunday 6am, and they expect the problem to be resolved after that. So if you can wait a few days, you might not need to call or try workarounds!

That's great news! Where did you see this announcement? I want to keep an eye on it to make sure the maintenance actually fixes the issue.

It's on the FSA Twitter/X account and there's a small notice at the bottom of the studentaid.gov homepage. Easy to miss if you're not looking for it. They've also been emailing schools to let financial aid offices know about the maintenance window.
