Can't edit FAFSA for 2024-2025 - only 2023-2024 appears available?

I'm getting really frustrated trying to update my FAFSA for the upcoming school year (2024-2025). When I log into studentaid.gov, it's only giving me the option to edit my 2023-2024 form. I need to make changes to my 2024-2025 application since my parents' income situation changed dramatically in January. Has the system not updated yet or am I missing something? The deadline for my school's institutional aid is coming up next month, so I'm starting to panic a little. Anyone else having this problem or know how to access the right form year?

So it's not just me! Have you tried calling them? I tried yesterday but gave up after being on hold for 40 minutes.

The 2024-2025 FAFSA form is currently undergoing maintenance due to the FAFSA Simplification Act changes. FSA announced temporary access limitations while they implement updates to the SAI calculation. You should be able to access it again by next week, according to the banner I saw on the studentaid.gov homepage yesterday. Your institutional deadline should still be fine if it's next month, but I'd recommend emailing your school's financial aid office to inform them of the situation just in case.

Thank you SO much! That makes sense. I didn't see any banner or announcement, but maybe I missed it. I'll definitely email my school's financial aid office today to let them know.

This FAFSA simplification garbage is making everything MORE COMPLICATED not simpler!!! First they delay the whole application period for months, now random maintenance with NO NOTICE?? My daughter nearly lost her housing assignment because we couldn't verify her aid package on time. The whole system is broken beyond repair. 🤬

I understand your frustration, but the changes will ultimately make things easier. The new SAI calculations better account for family size and multiple students, and the form itself has about 50% fewer questions. It's painful during the transition, but should be better long-term.

Try using a different browser! My chrome wouldnt show the 24-25 form but when I switched to firefox it worked fine. No idea why but worth a try

Interesting! I'll definitely try that when I get home. I've been using Chrome too. Did you have to clear your cache or anything first?

If you need to make income changes for the 2024-2025 FAFSA, wait until you can access the form again (should be next week per FSA's communication), then use the Special Circumstances process. Since your parents' income changed in January, this actually qualifies for a professional judgment review. When the system is back up: 1. Complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA with the information it asks for 2. Submit the form as required 3. Immediately contact your school's financial aid office about a "Special Circumstances" or "Professional Judgment" review 4. They'll request documentation of the income change Don't worry too much about the initial SAI calculation - the school can adjust it after you submit documentation.

Thank you for the detailed steps! I didn't know about the professional judgment review option. That's exactly what we need since my dad lost his job in January and their income will be way lower this year than what shows on their 2022 tax returns.

I had the same problem last week trying to edit my daughters aid info!!! Spent 3 hrs on hold with fafsa and never got through. So frustrating! Colleges need this info now!

I was in the same boat trying to reach Federal Student Aid last month about verification issues. Someone on another thread recommended using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to skip the hold times - it worked amazingly well. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Basically got me through to an actual FSA agent in about 5 minutes instead of waiting for hours. The agent confirmed the site maintenance and told me exactly when my application would be available again.
