After completing 2024-2025 FAFSA, will we receive another disclosure statement?
I'm confused about what happens next after submitting the FAFSA. My daughter and I just finished the 2024-2025 FAFSA application last week, and we got the initial disclosure statement right after submission. The college financial aid office is asking if we received a "second disclosure statement" but I have no idea what they're talking about. Is there supposed to be another disclosure statement that comes later? We've checked her studentaid.gov account and email but don't see anything new. The SAI score is showing on her account though. Do we need to do something to get this second statement or is the financial aid office just confused?

Yes, there should be a second disclosure statement! The first one confirms your FAFSA was submitted, but the second one comes after processing is complete (usually 3-5 days) and contains your official SAI calculation. It's sent to the email address listed on the FAFSA application. Check your spam folder - these emails often get filtered there. You can also download it directly from the studentaid.gov dashboard under "Documents." The college needs this because it contains the official processed results and your data release number.

•Thanks for clarifying! I just checked and you're right - it was in her spam folder from 3 days ago. The subject line is "Your FAFSA Confirmation" which confused me because I thought it was just another copy of the first one. Should we forward this to all the schools on her list or do they automatically get it?

Im pretty sure ur only supposed to get 1 disclosure statement after u submit. We only got 1 for my son's FAFSA. Maybe the finaid office is asking about the SAR (Student Aid Report)??? That's different from the disclosure statement. The SAR has all ur info and the official SAI number on it. You can get it from the dashboard where it says "view SAR" or something like that.

•omg the terminology is so confusing with FAFSA!! 🤦♀️ I think they use different terms for the same things sometimes. When we did our FAFSA last month, we got an email confirmation right away, then a "processed successfully" email a few days later with a PDF attached - is that what they're calling the "second disclosure statement"?? The whole system is so unnecessarily complicated! 😫

Has anyone else noticed that the disclosure statements this year look different from previous years? With the FAFSA Simplification Act changes, I'm wondering if the colleges are still figuring out what documentation they need from us. My daughter's financial aid office asked for her "complete disclosure package" whatever that means...

•You're absolutely right about the changes! The 2024-2025 FAFSA Simplification Act has changed several document formats and processes. The "disclosure package" typically includes both the initial submission confirmation AND the processed results statement (which includes your official SAI). Schools are adjusting to the new formats too. For the original poster: Different schools may use different terminology, but they likely need the final processed results document that includes your daughter's official Student Aid Index. This should be available in the "Documents" or "Communication Center" section of studentaid.gov once processing is complete.

I've been trying to reach the Federal Student Aid help center for THREE DAYS to ask about these disclosure statements because my son's college is asking for the same thing! Every time I call I get stuck on hold forever and then disconnected. I tried the chat but they just give generic responses. Has anyone actually been able to talk to a real person about these disclosure statement questions??

•I was having the same issue with the endless hold times! I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a FAFSA agent within 30 minutes. They call and wait on hold for you, then call you when they have an agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. The agent confirmed that the second disclosure statement is just the processed confirmation that includes your official SAI calculation.

•You're right! We found it in the spam folder. I'm wondering if I should tell my daughter's other schools that we have it now, or if they automatically get notified when the second disclosure statement/SAR is processed? Some schools have already sent her aid packages but others haven't.

To clear up some of the confusion here: 1. The first disclosure statement confirms your FAFSA submission 2. The second disclosure statement (sometimes called the SAR or Student Aid Report) comes after processing and contains your official SAI calculation 3. Schools should automatically receive the electronic version of your processed FAFSA data 4. However, some schools may request you upload your disclosure statement/SAR as verification If the school specifically asked for the "second disclosure statement," it's best to contact them directly to confirm exactly what they need. Some schools use their own terminology that doesn't precisely match the federal terms.

•Thank you for breaking it down so clearly! I called the financial aid office and you're right - they were looking for the SAR with the final SAI calculation. They said they should receive it electronically, but sometimes there are transmission errors, so they were asking for a copy as a backup. All sorted now!

Make sure to check both the parent and student email addresses used on the FAFSA application. Sometimes the notifications get sent to one and not the other, which causes confusion. Also, the second disclosure statement should be available to download from the studentaid.gov website regardless of whether you received the email notification.

•good point about checking both emails! when we did my sons fafsa the first email went to his address but the second one went to my email for some reason. the whole system is a mess this year with all the changes

Just wanted to add that if you're still having trouble finding the second disclosure statement, you can also call your daughter's college financial aid office directly and ask them to clarify exactly which document they need. Sometimes they'll accept a screenshot of the SAI from your studentaid.gov dashboard if you can't locate the actual PDF. Also, keep in mind that with all the FAFSA changes this year, processing times have been longer than usual - some families are seeing 7-10 days instead of the typical 3-5 days for the second disclosure statement to arrive.

•That's really helpful advice about calling the financial aid office directly! I'm new to this whole FAFSA process (first child going to college) and it's reassuring to know that schools are understanding about the confusion with all these changes. The 7-10 day processing time makes sense - we submitted our FAFSA about a week ago and haven't seen the second statement yet, so I was starting to worry something went wrong. I'll check both our email spam folders again and give it a couple more days before calling the schools. Thanks for mentioning the screenshot option too - that seems like a practical backup plan!

For anyone still confused about the terminology - I work at a college financial aid office and can confirm that what schools call the "second disclosure statement" is indeed the Student Aid Report (SAR) that contains your official Student Aid Index (SAI). This document is generated after your FAFSA is fully processed and verified. You should receive it via email at the address you provided on your FAFSA, typically 3-7 business days after submission (longer this year due to system changes). If you can't find it in your email, log into studentaid.gov and look for "View and Print Student Aid Report" in your dashboard. Schools need this because it contains the official processed data they use to calculate your financial aid package. Hope this helps clear up the confusion!
