Under what circumstances can you collect unemployment benefits in Washington?
I've been working at a manufacturing plant for 2 years and just got laid off due to downsizing. My supervisor said I should be eligible for unemployment but I'm not really sure what qualifies you. I know you have to be unemployed obviously, but what other requirements are there? Do you have to work a certain amount of time first? What if you quit vs getting fired? Trying to figure out if I should even bother applying with Washington ESD or if there's specific circumstances that disqualify you automatically.

There are several key requirements for Washington unemployment benefits. You need to have worked and earned wages in at least 2 quarters of your base year period, be unemployed through no fault of your own (layoffs qualify), be able and available for work, and actively search for new employment. Since you were laid off due to downsizing, that's considered involuntary separation which makes you eligible as long as you meet the wage requirements.
