Need ESD direct phone number - claim suddenly disqualified with no notice!

Is there ANY working phone number to reach an actual ESD agent?? I've been pulling my hair out for days! My husband's unemployment claim was approved last month, everything was going fine with two successful weekly payments, then suddenly the eServices portal shows "DISQUALIFIED" on his last two weekly claims with ZERO explanation! No letter, no email, nothing in his eServices inbox. We tried calling the main number at least 15 times but it's always "due to high call volume..." then either disconnects or sends us to another useless automated menu. We've already tried 855-682-0785 and 833-572-8400 with no luck. There's no option to appeal since we don't even know why he was disqualified! He's in construction and was laid off due to the weather freeze in January - totally legitimate claim. Anyone know of a direct line or trick to get through to a real person? Our rent is due next week and we're seriously freaking out!!

The disqualification without notice happens sometimes when their system flags something automatically. Most likely scenario is either 1) your husband accidentally answered one of the weekly claim questions wrong (especially the "able and available" one), 2) his employer contested the claim, or 3) there's a verification issue with his ID or work history. The trick to reaching ESD is timing - call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open, not a minute later. Also, try pressing 0 repeatedly during the automated message sometimes that gets you through faster. Don't hang up if you get in the queue, even if it says the wait is long.

Thank you!! We'll try the 8AM trick tomorrow. He's super careful about the questions and triple checks them, but maybe the "able and available" one got messed up somehow? I hope it's that simple. His boss already confirmed they're not contesting anything. Do you know how long we have to appeal once we find out what happened?

this exact thing happnd to me!!!! was gettin benefits then BOOM disqualified. turns out my boss told them i quit when i was FIRED. took me 3 WEEKS to get someone on phone who fixed it. ESD is such a joke omg

3 weeks?!! We can't wait that long! Did you have to do anything special to finally get through to someone?

I was in the EXACT same situation two months ago - approved then suddenly disqualified without any notice. After DAYS of trying to reach someone, I finally used this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an ESD agent in about 15 minutes. It totally worked! They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent told me I was disqualified because I answered "no" to being able to work full-time (I had a doctor appointment that ONE day but was available every other day). They fixed it right away once I explained. Check out claimyr.com if you're desperate - saved me weeks of stress!

is this legit? sounds like a scam tbh. why would anyone pay just to make a phone call lol

It's definitely legit. It's basically a service that keeps dialing for you and holds your place in line. I was skeptical too but after trying for 2 weeks to get through myself I was desperate. They don't take any personal info about your claim - they just connect the call.

What you're experiencing is extremely common in 2025. ESD has been overwhelmed since they updated their system in December. Something that nobody has mentioned yet is to check if the disqualification is coded. Look at your husband's claim details and check if there's a code like "DQ - 140" or something similar next to the disqualification. Each code means something different and can tell you what triggered the problem even before you get an official notice. CODES THAT ARE COMMON: "DQ-120" = Failed to be available for work "DQ-150" = Failed work search requirements "DQ-180" = Employer dispute "DQ-310" = Identity verification needed If you see any of these, you can start preparing your appeal documentation before even speaking with ESD.

OMG thank you for this!!! Just checked and it says "DQ-180" which means employer dispute? That makes no sense because my husband's boss already told us they're not contesting anything. Now I know what to ask about specifically when we call tomorrow. THANK YOU!

Happy to help! With a DQ-180, you'll need your husband's employer to contact ESD directly to confirm they're not contesting. Sometimes this happens because the employer doesn't respond to ESD's inquiry within the deadline, which ESD takes as a default dispute. Your husband should also gather his final paystub, layoff notice (if he got one), and any communication with his employer about the layoff. Good luck tomorrow!

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US GIVE UP!!!! I had to call 47 TIMES before I got through last month. They disqualified me because they said I "refused suitable work" which was COMPLETE BS. I had proof I never refused any work! Then when I finally got through the rep told me "oh that was an error in the system" and fixed it in 2 minutes. But I LOST 3 WEEKS OF BENEFITS because of their mistake!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US. They hope we'll just give up so they don't have to pay. Keep calling and DEMAND to speak to a supervisor if the first person can't help. Don't let them push you around!!!

While I understand your frustration, I don't think it's intentionally designed to make people give up. The system is definitely overwhelmed and has many problems, but in my experience working with unemployment cases, most issues are due to understaffing and outdated technology rather than malicious intent. That said, being persistent is definitely good advice.

Easy to say when you haven't lost your apartment because ESD took 6 weeks to fix THEIR mistake! They literally told me "we can see the error but the system won't let us override it" for WEEKS. How is that not intentional????

try calling the office of your state representative. my sister did this after 3 weeks of no luck with esd directly. the rep's office has special channels to escalate and she got a call back from esd the next day

Wow, I didn't even think of that! Do you just call their main office number? Did she have to do anything special to get them to help?

yep just google your district rep and call main office. say you need constituent services for an unemployment issue. they have forms for it. good luck

I'm an employment attorney who works with many ESD cases, and I can provide some context that might help. When a claim suddenly shows as disqualified without notice, it's typically because: 1. The system flags it for review based on automated criteria 2. It enters a queue for an adjudicator to examine 3. Your weekly benefits are temporarily suspended during this review 4. A determination letter is generated (which you haven't received yet) The "DQ-180" code you mentioned indicates an employer response issue. What often happens is employers have 10 days to respond to a claim, and if they respond late or their response contains certain keywords, the system automatically flags the claim even if they're not contesting it. Your best course of action: 1. Continue trying to reach ESD at 8:00 AM 2. Have your husband's employer contact ESD directly about the non-contest 3. Prepare a simple appeal letter (you can submit this even before receiving the official determination) 4. Continue filing weekly claims during this process Time is important here - you have 30 days from the date of the determination to appeal, not from when you actually receive the letter.

This is incredibly helpful information, thank you so much! We'll definitely make sure my husband keeps filing his weekly claims. His employer is a small construction company with only 10 employees - do you know if there's a special way for them to contact ESD about not contesting? Or do they just call the same impossible-to-reach number we've been trying?

Employers actually have a separate phone line and online portal for responding to claims. Your husband should ask his employer to log into their EAMS (Employer Account Management System) portal and check for any pending responses related to his claim. They can submit a non-contest response directly through that system. If they're unfamiliar with it, the employer services number is 855-829-9243. That line typically has much shorter wait times than the claimant line.

why dont they ever send emails!!!! its so annoying everything is by mail and takes forever. so old school

One more thing I just thought about - sometimes when you get disqualified, you won't see the appeal option until after you receive the official determination letter. But you can still submit an appeal before getting the letter by using the general ESD secure message system in your eServices account. Just select "Appeals" as the message type and include all relevant details, including the claim ID and the weeks that were disqualified. It's not the official appeal process, but it starts a paper trail and sometimes they'll fix obvious errors this way without requiring a formal appeal.

I didn't realize we could message them about appeals through eServices. We'll do that tonight while also trying to call in the morning. I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now with all these suggestions. Thank you everyone for the help!
