How to withdraw ESD overpayment waiver request - urgent help needed!
Hey everyone, I submitted an overpayment waiver request to ESD about three weeks ago, but now I'm thinking it was a mistake. I'm worried it might cause problems with my previous claims that were already settled. I've looked everywhere on the eServices portal but can't find any option to withdraw or cancel the waiver request I submitted. Has anyone successfully withdrawn a waiver request before? Is there a direct email address I can use instead of calling that impossible phone line? I've tried calling for two days straight and can't get through. Getting pretty anxious about this hanging over my head!

You should be able to call the collections department directly at 360-486-5817 rather than the main ESD line. They handle the overpayment waivers and can process your withdrawal request. Just make sure to have your claim ID ready.

•Thanks for the specific number! I'll try calling them tomorrow morning. Do you know if they have better wait times than the main line? Also, should I mention anything specific when I get through to make sure they actually process the withdrawal?

I went through this exact situation last year! You need to send an email to esdoberecovery@esd.wa.gov with your full name, last 4 of SSN, and clearly state you want to withdraw your overpayment waiver request. Include the date you submitted it if you know it. I got a confirmation within 3 business days that mine was withdrawn. Way easier than calling!

•Oh my gosh, THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I'll email them right away with all my info. Did they tell you what happens after they withdraw it? Does it just go back to the original overpayment status?

•Yep! It just reverts back to whatever status your overpayment was in before you submitted the waiver request. In my case, I just went back to my payment plan. Make sure to include your claim ID number too if you have it handy - forgot to mention that.

why would u even withdraw a waiver? if u get approved u dont have to pay back the money. makes no sense to withdraw

•I'm withdrawing because my situation changed. Originally I couldn't afford to pay, but now I can and I'm worried that if they investigate my waiver request, they might find issues with my other claims that were fine. Just trying to play it safe.

As someone who's worked with ESD cases, I'd recommend documenting everything when you withdraw your waiver request. Create a paper trail by using that email address mentioned above, then follow up with a secure message through your eServices account as well. Double documentation helps if there's ever a question about whether you withdrew properly. Also, if you're going back to a payment plan, make sure to confirm those terms again after the withdrawal is processed.

•This is spot on. I'd add that taking screenshots of any confirmations you receive is really important too. I had an issue where ESD claimed they never received my message, but I had the screenshot with timestamp proving I sent it. Saved me from paying an extra $2,100 in penalties!

If you're struggling to get through to ESD on the phone (who isn't?), you might want to try Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to an ESD agent without the endless waiting. I was in a similar situation last month needing to fix something urgently and they got me through in less than 30 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and you can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was seriously worth it for the stress it saved me.

•Has anyone else used this Claimyr thing? Sounds too good to be true with how impossible ESD is to reach. Does it actually work?

DONT EMAIL THEM!! I tried that route last year and my email got lost in their system. Six weeks later I got a collections notice because they never processed my request! Your safest bet is to use the secure message feature in your eServices account. Go to your dashboard, click on the message icon, and select "Benefit Questions" as the category. SPECIFICALLY mention it's about withdrawing an overpayment waiver. Print the confirmation page after sending!! ESD's system is a mess and you need proof of everything.

•Oh no, that's concerning! I actually tried the secure message feature first but couldn't find any option specifically about overpayment waivers. But I'll try again with the "Benefit Questions" category. Did you eventually get your issue resolved?

Just to follow up on my earlier comment - definitely do both the email AND the secure message like others suggested. Belt and suspenders approach is best with ESD. And make sure to check your spam folder for responses too. Their emails sometimes end up there.

Update: I sent both an email to the recovery address AND a secure message through eServices yesterday morning. Just got a response to my email confirming they've received my withdrawal request and will process it within 5-7 business days! Thanks everyone for your help with this. Such a relief to have it in progress!

•Great to hear! Make sure to keep an eye on your online account over the next few weeks to confirm the status reverts back properly. Sometimes there can be system delays in updating the portal even after they've processed your request internally.
