Can't get through to ESD after waiting 4+ weeks - need direct phone number ASAP
I've been trying to reach someone at ESD for over a month now. My claim has been sitting in limbo since January 12th and I'm getting really desperate as bills are piling up. I've tried the main number on their website like 50 times but either get disconnected or am told the wait time is over 4 hours! Does anyone have a direct number to actually reach a real person? Or maybe an extension that works? My rent is due next week and I'm seriously freaking out. Any help is appreciated!!

The main ESD claims center number is 800-318-6022. Unfortunately, it's notoriously difficult to get through no matter what number you use. What I found helps is calling exactly at 8:00 AM when they open. Also, if your claim is stuck, try sending a message through your eServices account - sometimes they respond faster that way than by phone.

Thanks for the quick response. I've tried calling right at 8am a few times but still can't get through - it just says 'all agents are busy' and hangs up! I've sent TWO messages through eServices and still radio silence. Is there any specific day of the week that's better to call?

Wednesday at 3pm... I'll definitely try that tomorrow. Did they actually help solve your issue when you finally got through?

After dealing with ESD for years, I can tell you their system is overwhelmed by design. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr service (claimyr.com). It basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nIt's worth trying if you're desperate and have been waiting this long. What's your claim stuck on specifically? Adjudication? ID verification?

I think it's stuck in adjudication but honestly I'm not even sure. It just says \

No, it's pretty straightforward. You just enter your phone number and they call you when there's an agent available. For adjudication issues, make sure you have your ID and any relevant documents ready when you talk to ESD. They might ask about your employment history or specific weeks you're claiming.

THE ESD SYSTEM IS DELIBERATELY BROKEN!!!! They make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach anyone hoping you'll just give up. I spent SIX WEEKS trying to get my issue resolved and when I finally got through the agent told me it was a simple coding error that took 30 seconds to fix!!!! This is how they save money - by making the process so frustrating people abandon legitimate claims. It's CRIMINAL what they're doing to struggling workers!!!!

i agree its frustrating but i dont think its a conspiracy lol. they just dont have enough staff

Wake up! It's absolutely intentional. Why else would they cut staff during peak unemployment periods? Why would their phone system hang up instead of offering callbacks? Why do they make simple issues take MONTHS to resolve? It's all about saving money at the expense of desperate people.

When my claim got stuck last year, I found that calling my state representative's office actually helped. They have special liaisons who can contact ESD directly. I emailed my rep explaining my situation, and their office contacted ESD on my behalf. Got a call from ESD within 48 hours after weeks of nothing. Worth a try while you're also attempting the direct route. You can find your rep here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/

That's a great idea I hadn't thought of! I'll look up my rep right now. Did you have to provide anything specific in your email to them?

I included my full name, contact info, claim ID number, and a brief description of my situation including how long I'd been waiting and what financial hardship it was causing. Keep it concise but make it clear why it's urgent. Good luck!

i had same problem last mont my claim was pending for like 6 weeks. i tryed everything. what ended up working was sending a message through eservices WITH THE SUBJECT LINE \

This is actually good advice. ESD does prioritize cases with demonstrated hardship. Just make sure you're truthful about your situation when using this approach.

I'm definitely going to try this approach too. I am genuinely facing eviction if this doesn't get resolved, so I'll make that clear in the subject line. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you! I'm going to try this number right now. If that doesn't work, I'll try the Claimyr service that someone else mentioned.

UPDATE: You guys are amazing! I tried the Claimyr service this morning and got a call back within 2 hours! The ESD rep was able to fix my claim - turns out there was an employer response they were waiting for but never received. They've now processed my claim and I should see payment in 48 hours. Such a relief after weeks of stress. Thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions!

Great news! Make sure you keep documentation of everything just in case there are any future issues. And don't forget to complete your weekly claims while receiving benefits.
