The job search requirement is really important. I know someone who got disqualified because they weren't keeping proper records of their job search activities.
Update for anyone still struggling to get through to Washington ESD - I used Claimyr again yesterday to check on a relative's claim status and they got me connected within 20 minutes. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting disconnected. Really recommend it if you need to talk to someone about your benefit calculation or claim issues.
I think it's totally worth it when you consider how much time and frustration it saves. Check out their website at claimyr.com for current info.
Bottom line - don't expect unemployment to replace your full income. Plan for getting maybe 40-50% of what you were making and budget accordingly. And start looking for work immediately because the job search requirements are real.
If your adjudication is taking forever you might want to contact your state representative's office. Sometimes they can help push things along with Washington ESD when you're not getting anywhere on your own.
Bottom line is Washington ESD is understaffed and overwhelmed. The offices that are open have minimal capacity and the phone system can't handle the volume. It's not personal, the whole system is just broken right now.
Just to recap the key steps: 1) File initial claim at esd.wa.gov 2) Set up direct deposit 3) File weekly claims every week 4) Meet job search requirements 5) Keep good records. Follow those and you should be all set.
And remember - if something seems confusing or you're not sure about an answer on the application, it's better to call and ask than to guess wrong. Wrong information can cause delays or other problems down the line.
Exactly. And now you know about Claimyr if you need to get through to someone quickly!

PSA: If you're still waiting for benefits and getting desperate, there are sometimes local emergency assistance programs that can help with utilities or food while you're waiting for unemployment to come through. Check with 211 or your local social services office.

•That's really helpful to know. I haven't reached that point yet but good to know there are options.

•Yes! United Way also has resources for people in between jobs. Don't suffer in silence while waiting for Washington ESD.

Just want to add that the 2-3 week timeline is for straightforward cases. If you have any complications - multiple employers, commission income, questions about your separation - it can take significantly longer. Best to be prepared for delays rather than counting on the shortest timeline.

•Mine should be straightforward - just one employer and regular salary. Hoping for the best!

•Even 'straightforward' cases can have unexpected delays. The system is overloaded and things happen.
