MA UI rep told me to file, but I worked in RI. How to file UI claim in correct state?
I got an email from a rep telling me to call Massachusetts unemployment insurance to file a claim, but I actually worked in Rhode Island. I want to file my claim in Rhode Island instead. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do when I call them?

Ugh, bureaucracy at its finest π I've been through something similar. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the Massachusetts number they gave you 2. Explain that you worked in Rhode Island, not Massachusetts 3. Ask them to transfer your claim or give you the correct Rhode Island number 4. Be prepared with your employment history and dates 5. Stay calm and polite (even when they inevitably give you the runaround) Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor! πͺ

This is solid advice. I'd add: take notes during the call, including the name of who you spoke to. It might come in handy later.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/-TzeCKWPW2Y

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

Have you tried contacting Rhode Island DLT directly? Might save you some hassle dealing with Mass.

I haven't yet, but that's a good idea. I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow.

This happened to me last year! It's a pain, but you'll need to file in the state where you worked (Rhode Island). Call RI and explain the situation. They might need you to send some extra documentation to prove you worked there. Hang in there!

It took about 2 weeks for me, but YMMV. Just keep following up and don't let them forget about you!
