NYS Department of Labor claim showing weird codes - what does this mean?
I'm looking at my unemployment claim history on my.ny.gov and there are some confusing abbreviations and codes that I don't understand. My regular UI benefits ran out last year but there were additional weeks that got added automatically. Now I'm trying to figure out what all these different program codes mean on my payment history. Does anyone know where I can find explanations for all the unemployment program types that NYS Department of Labor uses? I want to make sure I understand what benefits I received and if there are any reporting requirements I missed.

During the pandemic, there were several federal unemployment programs that extended benefits beyond the regular 26 weeks. NYS Department of Labor automatically enrolled people in these programs when their regular UI exhausted. The main ones were Extended Benefits (EB) and federal extensions. These programs had different eligibility requirements and ended at different times. You can find your complete payment history in your my.ny.gov account under 'Payment History' which will show which program each payment came from.

•Thanks! I found the payment history section. It looks like I got regular UI first, then it switched to some other code automatically. Good to know it was all legitimate.

yeah the system automatically moved people between programs when one ended, you didnt have to do anything special most of the time

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask about your payment history, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me reach an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made it much easier than trying to call during busy hours and getting hung up on.

•Interesting, I might check that out if I can't figure this out on my own. The phone lines are always so busy.

All those pandemic programs ended in 2021 so if you're currently unemployed you'd only be eligible for regular UI benefits now. The extended programs were temporary federal funding that's no longer available.

I'm in a similar situation trying to understand my old payment records! It's confusing when you see all these different program codes but at least we know it was all handled automatically by NYS Department of Labor.

I went through the same confusion when I was reviewing my old claims! What helped me was calling the NYS DOL customer service line and asking them to walk through my payment history with me. They were able to explain each program code - like PEUC (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation), PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance), and FPUC (Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation which was the extra $300/$600 weekly). They also confirmed that as long as you were certifying properly each week, there weren't any special reporting requirements you missed. The transitions between programs were automatic based on your eligibility.
