NYS Department of Labor claim delayed during inflation spike - unemployment rising too?
Been waiting on my NYS Department of Labor unemployment claim for 6 weeks now and everything seems messed up with the economy. Prices are going crazy but I keep hearing more people are losing jobs too. My claim is stuck in adjudication and I can't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor. Is this some kind of rare economic situation where both inflation and unemployment rise at the same time? I'm stressed about bills piling up while my claim sits there. Anyone else dealing with delayed claims during this weird economic period?

What you're describing economically is called stagflation - it's rare but happens when inflation and unemployment both increase simultaneously. As for your NYS Department of Labor claim, 6 weeks in adjudication is unfortunately common right now. Have you checked your my.ny.gov account for any outstanding issues that need documentation? Sometimes there are requests buried in the correspondence section.

•Thanks for explaining that term! I checked my account but don't see any specific requests. Just says 'adjudication in progress' with no other details.

I had the same issue last month - claim stuck for 7 weeks during adjudication. Turns out they needed employment verification from my previous job but never sent me a clear notice about it. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually get through to a real NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Finally got my claim moving after talking to someone who could see what was actually holding it up.

•How much did that cost? I've been trying to call for weeks with no luck.

•They don't mention pricing upfront but honestly it was worth it to finally talk to someone who could explain what NYS Department of Labor needed from me. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

•The economic situation is challenging, but focus on getting your unemployment claim resolved first. That's your immediate priority for income replacement.

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is overwhelmed right now! I've been waiting 4 weeks myself and every time I call I get that stupid automated message about high call volume. How are we supposed to pay rent when they can't even process claims properly?? This is exactly why people lose faith in government services.

Wait are you sure about that economic thing? I thought when unemployment goes up prices usually go down because people spend less money. This doesn't make sense to me at all.

•That's the normal relationship, but stagflation occurs when supply-side factors drive inflation while demand-side factors increase unemployment. It's counterintuitive but does happen during certain economic disruptions.

•Oh okay that makes more sense now, thanks for explaining it better
