NY unemployment payment timeline after fraud flag removal - how long for first payment?

After literally MONTHS of trying, I finally got through to someone at NY unemployment today! My account was flagged for fraudulent activity (which I didn't do!!), but they supposedly fixed it today. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to receive the first payment after they resolve a fraud flag? I'm so stressed about bills piling up and just want to know when I might actually see some money. Has anyone been through this specific situation before?

Thanks for the info! Did you have to do anything special during those 2 weeks or just wait it out?

When they remove a fraud flag, payments typically process in 3-5 business days for direct deposit, or 7-10 days for debit card delivery if that's your selected payment method. Make sure you continue certifying weekly while waiting. The agent should have given you a timeframe - did they mention anything specific about your case?

They just said it was 'fixed' but didn't give me any specific timeframe. I'm set up for direct deposit so hopefully it'll be on the faster end. I've been certifying every week even though nothing was happening, so that part should be okay.

THEY ARE LYING TO YOU!!!! I was told the EXACT same thing THREE times and each time nothing happened!! They just say whatever to get you off the phone. You need to call back and demand to speak to a supervisor. Get a reference number for the call too!!!!

Oh no, that's really concerning. Did you eventually get it resolved? I really can't afford to wait any longer.

I had a similar situation in February. After they removed the fraud flag, my back payments came in two batches - first batch in 4 business days, second batch about a week later. They should be processing all the weeks you've already certified for, so expect potentially multiple deposits. One important thing to check: log into your account and make sure your payment method is correctly set up. Sometimes when they fix fraud issues, your payment preferences can get reset.

That's really helpful info, thank you! I'll definitely check my payment method right now. Do you know if weekends count in the 4 business days?

No, weekends don't count as business days. So it would be Monday-Friday only. And just to clarify, they should be processing all your certified weeks at once, but sometimes the system batches them oddly. If you don't see anything after 5 business days, call them back immediately.

I'm in the same boat right now! Been fighting with them about a fraud flag for over 6 weeks. How did you finally get through to someone? I've called like 30 times and either get disconnected or they say someone will call back but they never do. I'm desperate!

I basically just kept calling over and over. It was really frustrating. I tried different times of day and eventually got lucky around 8:30am on a Tuesday.

I had the same problem trying to reach them for weeks. I finally used this service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting for hours or getting disconnected. It completely changed my experience - they connect you directly to NYSDOL agents. You can see how it works at claimyr.com or watch their demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Seriously saved me so much frustration after weeks of trying on my own.

fraud flags can take anwhere from 3 days to 3 weeks i've seen both happen to people i know. depends on ur specific situation and if theres any other issues with ur claim. did they say EXACTLY what caused the flag? sometimes theres multiple things wrong

They weren't super specific, just said there was 'suspicious activity' on my account that they determined wasn't actually me. I'm hoping it's on the shorter end of that timeframe because I'm really struggling here.

Based on my experience helping others with this issue, I'd recommend taking three important steps while waiting: 1. Document everything - note the date, time, and name of the rep who helped you today 2. Continue certifying weekly without fail 3. Check your message inbox and dashboard daily for updates If nothing appears in your account by the end of next week, call back and specifically request to speak with the fraud department. Sometimes the regular representatives say something is fixed when it's only partially resolved in the system.

Thank you for this detailed advice. I didn't get the rep's name (wasn't thinking clearly) but I did note the date and time. I'll keep certifying and checking daily as you suggested.

make sure ur bank info is right in the system! my friend had everything "fixed" but nobody told him his banking info got deleted when the fraud thing happened so the money was getting sent to a closed account or something

Oh that's a good point! I just checked and my bank info is still there, but I'm glad you mentioned this.

Just to update everyone - my payment actually came through yesterday morning! It took exactly 4 business days after they fixed the fraud flag. All 12 weeks of back payments came at once, which was a huge relief. Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Great news! This is fairly typical timing for fraud resolutions that don't have additional complications. Glad everything worked out for you.
