NY unemployment benefits showing 'ended' but never received any payments - stuck for 6 weeks
I submitted my NY unemployment claim about 6 weeks ago and managed to access my profile online. Someone from NYSDOL actually called me (surprising!) to tell me my claim was approved and that I needed to certify each week, which I've been doing religiously. Here's the problem - I just logged in and got a message saying my "benefits have ended" and that I've received all 26 weeks... but I haven't received ANY money at all! My payment history shows $0 across the board. How can my benefits have ended when they never even started? This makes absolutely no sense. I've been certifying for weeks with nothing to show for it. I've tried calling countless times but can't get through to anyone. I've also sent messages through the online portal but no response. It's been 6 weeks without income and I'm getting desperate. UPDATE 3/15/2025: I sent messages to my state senators and the governor yesterday. Still waiting for any kind of response. This is beyond frustrating.

This sounds like a system error in your claim. When the message says you've 'received all 26 weeks' but shows $0 payments, it usually means there's a flag on your account that's preventing payments from processing, but the system is still counting your certification weeks. You need to speak with a claims specialist directly. They'll need to reset your benefit year and correct the payment status. This happens more often than you'd think with the NY system.

•Thanks for explaining! But how do I actually reach someone? I've been calling the main number every day at different times and can't get through. The automated system just keeps me in loops.

I had this EXACT ISSUE in January!! It's because there's a glitch where the system thinks you were paid but the payment processor shows $0. The worst part of NY unemployment is YOU CAN'T GET ANYONE ON THE PHONE!! I spent 3 weeks trying every single day. The system is BROKEN and they don't care about regular people who need their benefits. I ended up having to borrow money from family just to pay rent while waiting for them to fix it. This isn't just a technical error - it's a FAILURE of the entire department. They need to hire more staff and fix their garbage website!

•You're absolutely right. The system IS broken. I work in IT and I can tell you their whole platform is running on outdated code that was patched together during covid and never properly updated. The NY government needs to invest in a complete rebuild.

After being in a similar situation, I discovered a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a NYSDOL agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. They basically call NYSDOL for you and connect you when they get through. I was skeptical but it worked for me - saved me weeks of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that shows how it works. Especially in situations like yours where there's clearly a system error, actually talking to someone is the only way to get it fixed.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did they fix your issue right away when you got through?

•Yes, it actually worked for me. When I finally got connected to an agent, they could see exactly what was wrong with my claim. Turns out there was a flag on my account from an employer verification issue that was preventing payments, but the system was still counting my weeks. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone, and my backpay hit my account about 4 days later.

the thing with NY unemployment you need to understand is that there are different departments handling different parts of the process. certifying is just step 1, but if your claim has ANY issues at all, it goes to a different department for review. when you certified, did you answer any questions differently than usual? like did you report any work or say you weren't available for work or something? that can trigger a block on payments but the system keeps letting you certify anyway which is super confusing. i would keep calling but also try calling right when they open at 8am. thats when i finally got through.

•No, I answered everything consistently each time. Always said I was available for work, actively looking, no income, etc. Nothing that should have triggered any flags. I'll try the 8am call tomorrow - thanks for the tip!

have u tried the callback feature? sometimes it works better than waiting on hold. also check ur spam folder for emails from them, my friend almost missed an important document they sent bcuz it went to spam

•I never even get far enough in the phone system to request a callback - it just tells me they're experiencing high call volume and to try again later, then hangs up on me. Good point about the spam folder though - I'll check that now.

One thing I recommend is looking at your payment history page very carefully. If it shows weekly certifications but $0 payments with any kind of message or code next to them, that's your clue about what's happening. Common codes include: - "Pending Review" - Your claim needs manual verification - "Break in Claim" - System thinks you stopped certifying at some point - "Benefit Year Ended" - System incorrectly thinks you've reached your maximum - "Identity Verification" - Need to submit additional ID documents Knowing exactly what's happening helps when you finally reach someone.

•I checked and it shows "Benefit Year Ended" next to each $0 amount, even though I just started 6 weeks ago! This definitely confirms there's an error. Thank you for this information.

•That's exactly the problem then! The system has incorrectly coded your claim as having reached the end of your benefit year (which would normally be after 52 weeks). This is 100% a technical error that needs a claims specialist to manually override. When you get through to someone, specifically mention your claim shows "Benefit Year Ended" incorrectly. That will help them fix it faster.

After you get this resolved (and you will!), make sure you request ALL your backpay for the weeks you certified. They should pay you for all 6 weeks at once when they fix the error. Keep documenting everything - screenshots of your payment history, certification confirmations, etc. This will help if there are any disputes about what you're owed.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone! I tried the Claimyr service that was mentioned and it actually worked - got me connected to an agent in about 25 minutes. The agent confirmed there was a system error that incorrectly marked my claim as having reached the maximum 26 weeks when it had just started. She fixed the error while I was on the phone and said I should receive all my backpay within 3-5 business days. She also said this is happening to quite a few people right now due to some recent system update they did. I'll update again when I actually see the money, but at least now I know what happened and that it's being fixed!

•Glad you got through! It's ridiculous we have to jump through so many hoops just to get what we're entitled to. Keep us posted on whether the money actually arrives.

•Great news! This is exactly what I suspected was happening. The recent system update in February has been causing this specific issue for new claims. Glad you got it resolved!

FINAL UPDATE: All the backpay hit my account this morning! Six weeks of benefits all at once. Such a relief after all this stress. Thanks to everyone who provided advice. If anyone else is experiencing this "benefits ended" error, definitely get on the phone with them - it's the only way to get it fixed.
