How to get 100% rating for unemployment ability with the NYS Department of Labor - need guidance
I'm trying to understand what I need to do to maintain a perfect rating for my ability to work requirements with NYS Department of Labor. My claim got flagged last week because apparently I wasn't meeting some criteria properly. I thought I was doing everything right - filing my weekly claims on time, doing my job searches, but now I'm worried I'm missing something important. Has anyone figured out exactly what they're looking for to get that 100% compliance rating? I really can't afford any delays or issues with my benefits right now.

The key is consistency across all your requirements. For the ability requirement, you need to show you're physically and mentally capable of working full-time in your usual occupation or any suitable work. This means keeping your availability open (usually 40+ hours per week), not restricting your job search to only certain days/times, and being ready to accept suitable work immediately. Also make sure you're not claiming any medical limitations that would prevent full-time work.

•That makes sense. I think I might have been too specific about my availability in my job search log. Should I go back and update those entries?

honestly the whole system is confusing and they never explain what they actually want. i got dinged for something stupid and couldn't figure out why for weeks

Here's what worked for me - document EVERYTHING. Keep detailed records of your job search activities, make sure you're applying to jobs that match your skill level (not just dream jobs), and always indicate full availability. The system tracks patterns, so if you're consistently available Monday-Friday 9-5 but suddenly say you can only work weekends, that's a red flag. Also, if you turn down any job offers or interviews, you better have a really good reason that fits their 'suitable work' guidelines.

•Wait, they can see if I turn down interviews? How would they even know that unless I report it?

I had a similar issue and couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person who explained exactly what was wrong with my claim. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Turned out I was making a simple mistake in how I was reporting my availability that was causing the system to flag me. Got it sorted out the same day.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already stressed about money and don't want to spend more if I don't have to.

•It was worth it for me since I was losing weeks of benefits trying to figure it out on my own. The peace of mind knowing I was doing everything correctly was huge.

Same boat here! The ability requirement is so vague. Like what does 100% even mean in their system?
