When do IRS transcripts update? Filed 3/4 but still no updates
Anyone know what time of day the IRS updates transcripts? I e-filed on 3/4 and my return was accepted, but my transcripts still haven't updated yet. I was hoping they would update today. Starting to get a little anxious since we're already in April and I was counting on this refund. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

IRS typically updates transcripts overnight, usually between 3am-6am EST. However, there's no guaranteed schedule, especially during peak filing season. Your 3/4 filing date puts you at about 4 weeks of processing time, which is still within normal ranges. The IRS is experiencing higher than normal processing delays this year, so I wouldn't be concerned yet.

Has your WMR (Where's My Refund) status updated at all? Sometimes WMR will show progress even when transcripts are still not available.

WMR just shows the first bar with "Return Received" status. Hasn't moved since I filed.

I filed on 2/28 and my transcripts just updated yesterday! The system is definitely backed up this year. I was checking obsessively until I found https://taxr.ai which helped me understand my transcript once it finally appeared. It explained all the codes and gave me a much clearer picture of when I'd actually get my refund. Might be worth bookmarking for when yours does update.

Is that site legit? I'm always wary of tax websites that aren't directly from the IRS.

Totally get the concern! It doesn't file your taxes or anything - it just helps interpret the transcript codes the IRS provides. I was confused by all the cycle codes and freeze codes when my transcript finally updated, and this helped translate the IRS jargon into plain English.

Transcripts can take 2-8 weeks to update depending on your filing situation. Did you claim any credits like Earned Income or Child Tax Credit? Those can add extra verification time.

Yeah, I claimed the Child Tax Credit this year. Didn't realize that could slow things down.

That explains it. PATH Act requires the IRS to do additional verification on returns with certain credits. They can't issue refunds before mid-February, and processing often takes longer for these returns. You're still within normal timeframes.

If you're really concerned, you can try calling the IRS, but good luck getting through! I spent 3 days trying last month. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) which got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was still in normal processing even though my transcript hadn't updated. Saved me a ton of stress knowing nothing was wrong.

Thanks for the tip! I might try that next week if I still don't see any updates. Did they charge a lot for the service?

It was worth every penny considering I wasted hours trying to call myself. They only charge if they actually connect you to an agent. Better than taking a day off work to sit on hold!

The system updates in batches, not continuously. Your return is probably in a processing queue. I'd give it until 8 weeks from filing before getting concerned. The IRS is seriously understaffed and returns with credits take longer to process.
