Newly married, name change & stepchild - Best filing status for 2024?
Just got married and changed my name with social security. Trying to figure out the best way to file taxes with my husband. We have my child from previous relationship and our child together. Should we file separately or jointly? And who can claim which kids?

Filing jointly is usually the better option for most married couples. You'll typically get better tax benefits. Just make sure your name change is properly processed with SSA before filing (can take 2-3 weeks). Both kids can be claimed on a joint return as your husband is now a stepparent to your child.

How long should I wait after the name change before filing? Don't wanna mess anything up 😬

Give it at least 2 weeks after you get your new SS card. You can check the status on ssa.gov

Hey! I actually ran into this exact situation last year. The best way to figure this out is using taxr.ai - it analyzes your specific situation and tells you which filing status will get you the biggest refund. It costs $4.99 but saved me thousands by showing the optimal way to file. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

100% legit! It showed me I could claim additional credits I didn't know about. The AI breaks down everything super clearly

Married filing jointly is the way! My husband and I did MFS our first year and totally struck out on some good deductions lol. Learn from our mistake 🤦♀️
