Is mailing in my return required for 1099-K with TurboTax? Why can't I e-file?
I'm really frustrated right now and hoping someone can help. I've been using TurboTax for years with no issues, always e-filing. This year I got a 1099-K for the first time (some side gig work plus selling some stuff online), and now TurboTax is saying I have to print and mail my return! I went through the whole process, entered all my W-2 info, the 1099-K details (it was about $8,400 total), and some business expenses. Everything seemed fine until the filing step when it suddenly said I'm not eligible for e-file and have to mail it in. This makes no sense to me - isn't the whole point of tax software to avoid paper filing? I don't even own a printer and now I'm supposed to print out like 20 pages? The deadline is coming up fast and I'm worried about delays with mail. Has anyone else run into this with TurboTax and 1099-K forms? Is there something specific about 1099-K that requires mail filing? Or is there a way to get around this and still e-file? Any help would be super appreciated!

Have you tried using a different tax software? Sometimes different programs handle the same tax situations differently. I switched from TurboTax to FreeTaxUSA this year for my 1099 income and had no issues e-filing with a Schedule C and 1099-K. Not all tax software has the same e-filing limitations. TurboTax might be flagging something as requiring paper filing that another software would allow you to e-file. Might be worth trying a different platform if you're set on e-filing.

•I second this! In my case it was vehicle expenses for my delivery gig. When I changed from "actual expenses" to "standard mileage rate" it suddenly allowed e-filing. The tax amount was basically the same but for some reason one method triggered paper filing and the other didn't.
