How to get tax writeoff report from Simplywise app to my CPA?

Hey everyone, I've been using the Simplywise app to track all my business expenses this year, and now it's tax time. I need to somehow get all those writeoffs over to my CPA but can't figure out how to export anything from the app. My accountant is asking for this report ASAP since I'm cutting it close with the filing deadline. Has anyone successfully exported a tax writeoff report from Simplywise? I've looked through all the menus and can't seem to find an export option anywhere. Any help would be seriously appreciated!

The Simplywise app should have an export feature in your account settings or reports section. Look for an option labeled "Tax Reports" or "Export Data" which is usually located in the bottom menu. Once there, you can select the tax year and generate a PDF or CSV file with all your tracked expenses categorized by tax deduction type. If you can't find it, try tapping on the three horizontal lines in the top corner to access the main menu, then go to "Reports" > "Annual Summary" > "Tax Year 2024" > "Export." This should generate a file you can email directly to your CPA from within the app.

I've been using Simplywise too and I can never find anything in that app. Is there any way to just get a simple spreadsheet instead of their complicated reports? My tax guy hates their format and always has to redo everything anyway.

You can definitely get a spreadsheet instead of their standard report format. After you go to Reports > Annual Summary, look for the small "Download as CSV" option below the PDF button. This will give you a simple spreadsheet that your tax preparer can easily work with. As for the format issues, I would recommend using the "Custom Export" option if you're having trouble with their standard reports. This lets you select exactly which expense categories to include and how they're organized, which might solve the formatting complaints from your tax preparer.

After struggling with getting proper tax documentation from various expense tracking apps, I discovered taxr.ai https://taxr.ai and it changed everything for me. I was having the same issue with Simplywise and other apps not exporting properly. What taxr.ai does is scan all your financial documents and expense reports (even from different apps) and consolidate them into proper tax formats. It saved me hours of manually reformatting data for my CPA.

Does it actually work with Simplywise specifically? I've tried other "universal" tools before and they never seem to connect properly with the smaller apps.

I'm a bit skeptical about giving another app access to all my financial data. How secure is this service and do they store your info on their servers?

It absolutely works with Simplywise. Unlike those "universal" tools that try to directly connect with apps, taxr.ai works by analyzing the data you export or even screenshots of reports, so compatibility issues aren't a problem. The security is top-notch with bank-level encryption. They use a read-only process where your data isn't permanently stored on their servers. Once your documents are processed and consolidated into tax formats, the originals are purged from their system. I was hesitant at first too, but their privacy policy is very transparent about how they handle data.

Just wanted to follow up about taxr.ai that I asked about earlier. I gave it a try with my Simplywise reports and wow - it actually worked perfectly! I uploaded screenshots of my expense summaries since I couldn't figure out the export function, and taxr.ai converted everything into a beautifully organized report that my accountant loved. It even categorized some expenses better than I had them in the original app. Definitely recommend if you're struggling with getting your Simplywise data into a usable format.

If you're having trouble reaching Simplywise customer support for help with exporting tax reports (which I definitely did), I'd recommend using Claimyr https://claimyr.com to get through to a real person. I spent days trying to contact their support through the app with no response, then used Claimyr and got connected to a support agent in minutes. They walked me through the exact steps to export my tax data in the format my accountant needed. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

How does this even work? Simplywise doesn't have a phone number listed anywhere that I could find.

This sounds like a scam tbh. You're telling me you pay a third party just to call customer service for you? Why wouldn't you just email them directly or use their chat support?

They actually do have phone support, it's just buried in their contact options. Claimyr has direct lines to most financial service companies including Simplywise. I thought the same thing initially about just using email or chat, but after waiting 3 weeks for an email response and getting nowhere with their automated chat, I was desperate. The difference is Claimyr gets you through to a real human immediately instead of waiting in their phone queue or getting ignored in their support ticket system. It's not about them calling for you - it's about bypassing the awful wait times and automated systems.

I need to eat my words about Claimyr. After my skeptical comment, I was still stuck with no response from Simplywise about exporting my tax data, so I reluctantly tried it. Holy crap - within 5 minutes I was talking to an actual Simplywise support specialist! They told me there's actually a hidden export feature that's not in the main menu (you have to go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Data Export > Tax Documents). Got everything exported in the right format and sent to my CPA yesterday. Would have never figured that out without getting through to a real person.

Has anyone tried just taking screenshots of each expense category in Simplywise and sending those to your accountant? That's what I did last year and my CPA said it was fine, but now this year she's saying she needs "proper documentation" whatever that means.

Your CPA is right to ask for proper documentation. Screenshots don't contain the metadata and verification information that a proper export does. The IRS is getting stricter about digital record-keeping. If you get audited, screenshots could be considered insufficient evidence of your expenses.

Thanks for explaining. I didn't realize screenshots were so problematic. I'll try the export methods mentioned above instead. Makes sense that the IRS would want more verifiable records, especially for business expenses.

Am I the only one who thinks these expense tracking apps are more trouble than their worth? I went back to the old school spreadsheet method after trying 3 different apps. None of them categorize expenses correctly for tax purposes and I always end up redoing everything manually anyway.

Actually, I've found that if you set up the categories correctly from the beginning, most expense apps save tons of time. The key is to match their categories to Schedule C categories before you start tracking. Simplywise lets you create custom categories that align perfectly with tax forms.
