How to amend IRS tax return & check status? Need advice on Form 1040-X

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to amend my tax return and check its status. I know I need to mail Form 1040-X, but I'm not sure where to send it or what else I need to include. Also, I want to know if there's anything missing from my original return. Any advice on how to handle this or what to ask when I finally get through to the IRS?

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

Make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING you send to the IRS. They've "lost" my documents before 🙄

I've been through this before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Fill out Form 1040-X 2. Gather all supporting documents 3. Mail it to the right IRS address (depends on your state) 4. Use the 'Where's My Amended Return?' tool on the IRS website to check status For specific questions about your return, you'll need to talk to an agent. Be prepared with your filed return and any notices you've received.

This is super helpful, thanks! Do you know how long it usually takes for them to process an amended return?

It can take up to 16 weeks for the IRS to process an amended return. Sometimes even longer if they're backlogged. Patience is key here!

Has anyone used a tax professional for this kind of thing? Wondering if it's worth the cost.

I did last year. It was pricey but they handled everything and I didn't have to stress about it. Might be worth it if your case is complicated.

I'm an accountant and I always recommend getting professional help for amendments. It's easy to mess up and the consequences can be costly.

Pro tip: If you're mailing anything to the IRS, use certified mail with return receipt. It's saved my butt more than once!

Have you guys tried calling early in the morning? I heard that's the best time to get through.
