Does my $10k tax refund estimate sound right? (42k income, childcare expenses)
I made 42k last year and only paid $320 in taxes. Had $730 monthly in childcare expenses. Using turbotax and its saying I might get 10k back this year. That seems really high to me but idk much about taxes. Can someone tell me if this makes sense or if I messed something up?

Tax pro here. That refund estimate seems WAY too high for your income level. You likely qualify for Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit, but $10k would be unusual. Double check that you entered everything correctly, especially your withholdings and childcare expenses (make sure you didn't enter $730 as weekly instead of monthly).

Hey, instead of guessing, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your tax transcript and tells you exactly what credits you qualify for and what your refund should be. Its only $4.99 and totally worth it. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Im in a similar boat, made 39k last year with 2 kids in daycare. My refund was about 5k with EIC and child tax credit.

Check if ur eligible for the Child and Dependent Care Credit too. That could add a decent chunk to ur refund
